Center View

After upgrading to 5.0.0 +9065270, I'm having an issue while using the Center View feature. After I enter the lat/lon and click on "OK" I get an audible ding and the dialog box stays open. It's the same response I would get if I left both fields empty and hit the "OK" button. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Center View

FWIW I've tried to center the same position on Win10. Takes me to something called Phinneys harbor.

Re: Center View

What version are you using? I have ver 4.4.0 on Windows 10 and the point plots okay. I'm running 5.0.0 on another Windows 10 PC and it just "dings" when I hit okay.

The Center View dialog in OpenCPN has a feature that can center the screen using a Latitude and Longitude position from the clipboard. This allows the user to copy a latitude and longitude pair to the clipboard from something in some window on the computer. Then, the user right clicks over the chart canvas in OpenCPN, and the Center View dialog opens with the latitude and longitude values filled in. This can be very useful.

However, if the clipboard contains something that the Center View code cannot recognize as latitude and longitude these entries are shown as blank. If the user then types in a valid latitude and longitude and clicks on "OK", the program sounds a "ding and the dialog box stays open".

I can usually get the Center View dialog to work again by copying a valid latitude and longitude pair into the clipboard before trying the Center View dialog again.

Re: Center View

After looking at the suggested resolutions on the forum, I'm still having a problem with this. Any other options for getting help? I use this application in an emergency communcations center and find it invaluable. But without this feature working I can't upgrade to the latest version.

You can try this to see if we're dealing with a config error of some sort:

*Find the location your opencpn.ini file by pressing the icon with a "?" surrounded by a circle
*Close OpenCPN
*Rename the file opencpn.ini, and take an extra backup to be on the safe side.
*Restart OpenCPN. A new opencpn.ini file will be created. This will be like a new install, without charts etc.
* Test the "Center View..", without doing anything else.
*If it works, please publish the old "opencpn.ini" file here for the developers to analyze. In this case you have to manually reset your installation.
*If it still does not work.....close down OpenCPN.
*Delete the newly created opencpn.ini file.
*Restore your old backup file by once again renaming it to opencpn.ini.
*Start OpenCPN and you will be back to where you started.

Do not edit the opencpn.ini file while OpenCPN is running!!!

What version of OpenCPN did you use prior to upgrading?

Re: Center View

Thank you for the suggestion. Replacing the .ini file with a new one did not change the behavior i'm experiencing.

OpenCPN was upgraded from 4.4.0.

Re: Center View

I confirm that I see exactly the same behaviour on W10 with OCPN 5.0.. i.e. it doesn't work as expected.

Works as expected under Linux

Re: Center View

Thanks Moo. I added a bug report to the OpenCPN site.
