Can't show Depth Soundings on Mac OS

Hi,

I can't seem to be able to show depth soundings (contours) in Vector charts on the MacOS. Reading at instruction manuals online I can see I should have a checkbox for "Depth Sounding" above the "Chart Information Objects" under Settings/Charts/Vector Charts..

Please see my two screenshots attached. Can anyone help? I LOVE my Depth Sounding contours on my charts.

It works fine on my Android Tablet.

Thanks!
Emmanuel

Go to the chart panel menu, down right - the "hamburger".

And btw.: the "s" key is an alternative to toggle soundings on/off

Re: Can't show Depth Soundings on Mac OS

Thank you!! I didn't know about this Chart Panel Options tab so this is new to me. I was able to turn the soundings on and that works.

Looking at your screenshot though you have the depth contours enabled. That is also what I am looking for. I use them to read depth topography for fishing purposes.

I am using the official O-Chart Canada West Coast Vector charts and I was able to make them work this weekend, so I know it's in there somewhere. I did activate the "Depth Countour" in Vector Chart Options but no dice, somehow my depth contours refuse to load. Again, thank you for your help. Emmanuel

I also notice you have contours on land, that is neat, may I ask how that also gets activated? Thanks again

You really need to reed through the release notes for version 5 https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/about/ver500.html to understand what has changed from earlier versions 4.8.x.

To see the land height contour lines you need to use "Display Category" "All" or "User Standard". The default is "Standard", which probably is what you are using.

Re: Can't show Depth Soundings on Mac OS

A lot of details depend on the editor of the charts - objects they add or not.
Land details are one,

The CHS edited charts have one very special detail: soundings are only visible when zooming in a lot. Almost when at 1:1 (display and chart scale).

This is governed by the SCAMIN parameter of the objects set by the editing authority. No general rule in this case. And nothing we will change in the case of oeSENC.

Thomas is right about the manual - in order to get a clear idea what one can see or hide in ENCs.

In the case of the example from CHS the "All" does not reveal land height layers neither. But the mileage will vary for other chart sources.
