Bug? oesenc-pi crashes on start-up with "Bus error"

Hi there,


I am encountering a crash after starting up 5.0.0 with the oeSENC plugin (v2.9.1524). It worked with plugin version 2.4 before but after the update (2.9) it stopped working. I also compiled a plugin version on my system but no joy after that. OpenCPN shows its GUI and after a few seconds (assuming the plugin kicks in with chart calculation) it goes away. I have done a manual download from the o-charts shop, unzipped and installed it as the download option in the chart section also stopped working. I still have the last fingerprint file installed (not renewed yet as I am afraid of losing/corrupting my licence).
Anyone can help?

Some more. Even after compiling OpenCPN on my system as well, things have not changed. I now went back to version 2.4 of the plugin (oesenc-pi_2.4.0-0~xenial1_armhf.deb from Index of /opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu/pool/main/o/oesenc-pi). That got me up and running again. I will wait until they have done some more work on the plugin if any.
Well, if there is anybody around encountering same problems (or even has a solution) please do not hesitate to shout :-)

I see you running ddd, and you are able to compile from source.


If you have the time, let us move to email, and try some more detailed debugging to track this down. I will send email.

@Sea Patroller: I had (maybe the same) an equal issue. I tried to update OC to OC5 an when I started it it Crashs when using osenc Vektor Charts.
When I deinstall the oesenc plugin I was able to start OC5 and use rastercharts.
But I stopped the tests yesterday and have to start again testing today or in the next few days.

The way you solve the prob (go back to the 2.4 Version of the plugin) seems now to be closed cause this Version is no longer in the path you describe?

It should be there. Did you check the ppa repository?
Yesterday I got it up and running. Magic actually because all I did was to compile OpenCPN as the Debug version and the problem did not come up. So I got 2.9 running now but the GUI downloader still gives this communication error 57. Installing the charts manually works though.

re: error "57".
This is a general comm error, nothing received when status is requested from o-charts server.
Is the this a persistent error for you?

Hi,

I have (the same) probs with the oesenc plugin too.

What I´ve done:

Raspberry Pi 2B
Jessie
OC 4.8.8
All worked fine. Osenc Vektor Charts - no Problem.

Updating from Jessie to Stretch
OC 4.8.8
All worked fine. Osenc Vektor Charts - no Problem.

Updating to OC 5 using the ppa and xenial
oesenc-plugin is then the 2.9.xxx Version.
OC5 crashed when switching to vektor Charts.
Leave the plugin enabled and using rastercharts->works

deinstall and install the plugin -> no Change
deinstall and install the plugin followed by a rebuild of the Chart database -> no Change
deinstall and build the blugin from source, then reinstall -> no Change

every time when trying to switch to Vektor Charts oc crashes. The log-file doesen´t repeat something.

Raster Charts working.

What can I do now?

Trying to find the older 2.4 package but I´m blind.
@Sea Patroller: The path you wrote above doesn´t have a 2.4-deb package. Only the actual 2.9.xxx packages.
In the ppa I didn´t find an older package.
So how can I switch back to the 2.4 Version (Sea Patroller wrote this works)

Or do I have to build OC from source for fighting against this issue (how can I tell my pi to use more cores from the cpu during the make process)?

Edit: Just manage to find an old 2.4 Version of the plugin.
Right. With this it works. No Crash.
The Icons of the buoys are terrible but it works.

Hi,

it was very late yesterday, the prob with the Icons I wrote above was my fault. After using an other display style of the Vektor Charts (paperchart) they are ok now.

Due to SSL Wireshark could not look (decrypt) inside the TCP payload but it can be seen that the client side stops the communication process (Encrypted Alert). Encryption used is TLSv1.2.
I started the request at 2019-03-27 07:32:38.468333 (UTC) and it stopped at 2019-03-27 07:32:39.640123

I just pulled the latest git version (2.9.1526) compiled and installed it. The chart download is running again.
