BU 353 Receiver, Open CPN and MacBook HELP.

BU 353 Receiver, Open CPN and MacBook HELP.

I have installed the driver for the receiver and I have followed the advice in this thread along with the tutorial at USGlobalsat Corporate. I cannot get Open CPN to light up my boat icon. It does show the gps streaming.

Any help would be appreciated.

How about checking out this thread from this morning to start with?
(Altough substituting a suitable Mac port monitoring app)

Thanks Jesperwe:

When I go into the tool box I can check the box and see the GPS streaming but it will not show up on the boat icon.

Ah. Then that's more interesting. I assume you are using version 3.0.2 of course?
If not, then please install that. Then take a suitable range of the stream from the GPS, about 20 or so lines should be enough, and paste it here.

Re: BU 353 Receiver, Open CPN and MacBook HELP.

That's a very nice dump from a GPS that doesn't see any satellites and has no position.

Try putting the antenna out the window.

Re: BU 353 Receiver, Open CPN and MacBook HELP.

Is that really the output of the ocpn gps window? It usually has timestamps there...
And there are no checksums on those NMEA commands, so they can't work anyway...

Re: BU 353 Receiver, Open CPN and MacBook HELP.

No
I could not copy the stream from open CPN so I went to my gps utility.
In open CPN I could not highlight and copy.

I will keep trying

Re: BU 353 Receiver, Open CPN and MacBook HELP.

Ok, then screenshot it. Make it big and make sure you have at least on GPGLL and one GPGGA complete with checksum in it, WITH satellite reception OK. That's enough to analyze potential problems.

Re: BU 353 Receiver, Open CPN and MacBook HELP.

JesperWe

I got it. I just happened to check auto pilot output port to match the nmea data source and it works with the BU353.

Thank you so much for your help.
