Better sounding ships bells

For more realistic sounding ships bells replace the two .wav files in the 'Sounds' folder with the ones from here.

Makes the 'two bells' easier to distinguish with a bit more time between the bells.

Thanks Stelian,

I tried to get some attention of the developers in a Flyspray tasklist to change them but lost the battle. Too hard I guess.

Re: Better sounding ships bells

Very much agreed. They have a nice resonance and should be the default bells.
Why not make a PR with the bell files included?

Re: Better sounding ships bells

Where do these sound files originate?
What license apply to them?

These questions will for sure come up before they can (possibly) be included in O. Part of the red tape with free software

Re: Better sounding ships bells

Having shortened somewhat the silent initial and final part with Audacity, I plan to use the two bells as my AIS alert sound, as it sounds nice and clear...

Re: Better sounding ships bells

There used to be a little circuit diagram which once made produced the destroyer "woop" "woop" sound. Now that could be useful in a busy anchorage.

Do you really think that will help?
I got shot down on the Flyspray tasklist suggesting this.

Can you also point me to the FS task where you were "shot down"?

Thanks

Hi Pavel,

Top two from Sojan on the image.

The FS task has been removed. It was posted by Jean-Marie Houle.

Terry

All the closed tasks in the tracker are still available, with a little searching.
I suppose you mean one of these closed tasks
https://opencpn.org/flyspray/index.p...rom=&closedto=

Good to know if you ever need to reopen a task.

Terry...

This is how it should be done to have a better chance to get somewhere: https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/pull/1317
