Re: Beta Test / Technical

Not sure if this is the correct OpenCPN thread to post this, but have issue with OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1006 Build 2013-10-06 and Plugins, that may be specifically Beta issue, permissions related, or may be user related! New install on Ubuntu 13.04 from deb file in GUI.

Issue:
1) Default Plugins such as Grib and Dashboard show "greyed out" in Options, Plugins therfore I cannot select enable as selecting does nothing
2) Dashboard Plugin does not show on Toolbar, neither active or "greyed out" as per instructions say it should
3) Despite following latest instructions, Climatolgoy Plugin does not show in either Options Plugins or on screen

Question/Note: Which is the correct location for the plugins directory in linux? This is not clear despite reading instructions for OpenCPN and specific Plugins. Is the permissions of the created plugins directory for Climatology an issue, this is root:root as per Climatology instructions, is this correct generally for all plugins? Interestingly there are no errors for any plugin loading in the logfile. Is there a switch to turn on verbose logging? Is this an issue with Beta or an issue with my install or permissions? Thanks. Specific install config details and screenshot follows...

Default Logfile & Config location (my username changed to $USER to protect the innocent):
Logfile location: /home/$USER/opencpn.log
Config file location: /home/$USER/.opencpn/opencpn.conf

Current Climatology Plugin and Data file location: /usr/share/opencpn/plugins/climatology/data as per most up to date instructions

Re: Beta Test / Technical

UPDATE: just noticed I should have the so plugin file for Climatology in /usr/lib/opencpn which is there now. Same issue with all Options Plugins greyed out as per previous screenshot provided.

I'll toy around with permissions on these files.

Permissions:

/usr/lib/opencpn$ ls -l
total 1388
-rw------- 1 $USER $USER 377216 Oct 16 12:41 libclimatology_amd64_pi19_v02_pi.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 446472 Oct 7 19:06 libdashboard_pi.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 589312 Oct 7 19:06 libgrib_pi.so

Re: Beta Test / Technical

OK, user error. Got it working.

I needed ot click on each Plugin seperately in Options, Plugin to activate (doh!). For all others, to confirm the linux Permissions should be:

$USER@laptop:/usr/lib/opencpn$ ls -l
total 1388
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 377216 Oct 16 12:41 libclimatology_amd64_pi19_v02_pi.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 446472 Oct 7 19:06 libdashboard_pi.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 589312 Oct 7 19:06 libgrib_pi.so

Preferences for Climatology are greyed out or non clickable, so I|ll follow directly in their thread.

Thank you!

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Yes, Boombrake, I believe the file location is correct, and the file type.
Also do not forget where the data goes...

I have a file that I use to remind myself how to compile climatology and the others, which I will attach here. It is a text file with gz comprsssion, take the doc off. sorry thats the way it was. I hope it helps. Keep in mind that when I first compiled data I had to crunch it out of the gendata directory. You do not have to do that, as I did it for Sean. If this is too confusing for you I'll try to distill it, but Pavel has some good instructions on the opencpn plugins sourceforge that can be downloaded.

When you copy the data and plugins into the right directories you may need to need sudo....

Nice one, thanks rgleason. I have some questions, but will move the discussion to Climatology plugin thread...

Dave..
A screen shot is attached where I marked some misplaced text elemnts. The corresponding details for one element is also shown. I've also tried to mark where the mouse pointer where located during the screen capture. That position is clear from the bottom info bar. And those positions, the mouse and the text element, are the same! My conclusion now is that it is the CM93 data base that causes the error and not OCPN since the text element's position is fetched from the data base. Right?
When increasing the level of details, using the same scale, the rendering switches to another CM93 file and the new text elements are on correct positions.
So I suppose that my first question, if the error are caused by CM93 or OCPN is answered, OCPN is not responsible?

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Hakan...

Your supposition is correct. The geo location of _texto objects is in the cm93 database.

So, the simple answer is that the error is in (certain scales of) cm93, not OCPN.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Have managed to create a git diff for weatherfax_pi for changes that compile (Rasbats and ChuckSK were instrumental with the changes). Would like to know how to do this better and how to "Commit" to weatherfax_pi. See weatherfax_pi post.

Perhaps someone can advise me how?

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Weather_routing_pi with Illegal External File Refs corrected and recompiled, using Opencpn 3.3.1117, no longer reads GRIB files but does read Climatology gribs.

Have committed and synced to github.
Also see last comment FS#1135 : No longer compiles - Plugin dependency problems - (Fixed, now need to submit to Git)

Any suggestions to fix this would be appreciated. Have tried to locate some grib_pi version checking code, but could not find it.

Re: Beta Test / Technical

There was talk about the possibility of connecting commercial chart Jeppesen for CPN
Made a request to the receipt of Jeppesen Marine C-MAP MAX SDK
The answer is "because the system uses a hacked chart OpenCPN CM93. We only work with partners in good faith."

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Baikal...
Could we perhaps see the whole answer? There's nothing hacked in OpenCPN as the Jeppesen guys sure know - that's why they don't actually do anything. How do people source their charts is other thing, of course...

Re: Beta Test / Technical

All.. for info regarding Win32 builds. (And maybe others as well?)
When updating Poedit from version 1.5.2 to 1.6.3 the environment variables needs to be changed. See post http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1418341 for further details.

Re: Beta Test / Technical

All.. My last post regarding Poedit version 1.6.3 is not correct!

My path conclusions was obviously made to fast. When afterwords I build from scratch the "xgettext" or something else is not found. It strange because the "xgettext.exe" is moved from "c:\.....\poedit\bin" to "c:\....\poedit\GettextTools\bin" but even if I change the environment variable path to point to that dir neither cmake nor VC10 can find it.
For now I revert to Poedit 1.5.2 but I think this has to be solved to avoid future troubles.
Could it be that "cmakelisttext" and the functions:
Code:
FIND_PROGRAM(GETTEXT_XGETTEXT_EXECUTABLE xgettext)
IF (GETTEXT_XGETTEXT_EXECUTABLE)
are doing more then running xgettext.exe???
I'm lost --- coders please advice.
Thanks Håkan
