well, These work! I don't think they did work as well before in earlier versions. I think that it's a handy tool that I am pleased to see! Of course, it doesn't work when there are 2 first letters the same... hmm.
It follows, that when the first letter can't be used, another one is that doesn't conflict.
So it follows that to save the user guessing ,(another tiny bch) these "should be" underlined in Windows when Windows is set to show the underlining.

I'm likely the only one left that still sets things up this way and maybe it has been changed since XP.

Hi - I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), and the very first time I upgraded to beta 3.1.1105, OpenCPN ran fine. Second and subsequent invocations all hang, indicated as "Not Responding" in Activity Monitor.

I have re-downloaded the beta app and still the same issue. I have the dump Activity Monitor creates upon a Force Quit of the process - would this be useful? If OpenCPN creates a logfile, where might that be found?

BTW, 3.0.2 comes up fine.

Edit - whoa... 3.1.1105 works after opening 3.0.2 - perhaps the config file was corrupted and overwritten by the 3.0.2 invocation?

OK - now some OpenCPN/QtVlm integration issues. I create a route in OpenCPN, and attempt to export it by right-clicking on the route.

1) no dialog box appears - no klm file type selection box at all as indicated at Weather Routing | Official OpenCPN Homepage.

2) Trying this a second time (right-clicking) crashes OpenCPN reliably on MacOSX 10.6.8, OpenCPN beta 3.1.1105.

3) Right-clicking on a route in qtVlm gives me the option of copying the route in klm format, but

4) Right-clicking in OpenCPN does not let me paste the route.

Did some interface features disappear between 814 and 1105?

My only export option using the Route Manager in OpenCPN is .gpx files.

Since someone set a ridiculous 1K file size limit on text files, I named the attachments opencpn.log.pdf and opencpn.ini.pdf; please strip the .pdf extensions - they are actually text files.

There is only one config file in your system which is used both by 3.1.1105 and/or 3.0.2. This will make problems when you try to start different versions.

A workaround might be to rename "opencpn.ini" to "opencpn30.ini" before you start 3.1.1105. Then a new "opencpn.ini" for 3.1.1105 will be created.
Rename this new "opencpn.ini" to "opencpn31.ini" and "opencpn30.ini" back to "opencpn.ini" before you start 3.0.2.
"opencpn.ini" is stored at /Users/your-name/Library/Preferences/

/Users/your-name/Library/ might be a hidden folder. Go to Finder menue "Go to/Goto Folder" and type in: /Users/your-name/Library
"your-name" is your Home Directory name.
Renaming the ini files only works when there is no OpenCPN instance running anymore.

The opencpn.log file is stored at /Users/your-name/Library/Logs/

Thanks Gerhard; I had found them earlier when I finally looked at the "About" splash screen. As I'm Linux adept, I had earlier looked in the usual suspect locations - /var/log, /usr/bin/..., through the Applications install tree - oh well.

Now, about those auto-crashes and the missing kml file interfaces...

A possible reason for your crashes I have explained already.
The interface to QtVlm is new to 3.1.1105.

Thomas, on my version of OpenCPN (3.1.1105) The first right-click on a route gives me a summary (Route name, Length, leg, blah, blah). The second click crashes OpenCPN. Reliably.

Sorry - I can't find the reason... is this documented or registered as a bug ticket? Did the 3.1.XXX version work correctly?

I would be very happy to help debug the issue, generate testcases, etc. At some point even contribute to a routing optimization module for OpenCPN. There are also routing issues in QtVlm; I will post these in the QtVlm forum.

i am sorry to post about the HDG display in OPENCPN again, but this really i want to know why.
I have a furuno AIS and the GYROCOMPASS singnal cable is connected to the AIS, and then connect the AIS with my Laotop buy a COM cable ,I have installed opencpn and another chart plotter software, the problem is opencpn can not display HDG in the dashboard ,but the ship's heading on chart is well displayed, pls see attached screenshut for your reference.

I think there was a XTE calculation error in opencpn,pls see attached picture,I made this screenshot on my way from singapore to abidjan,this problem mostly occur in a long distance leg.

We changed HDM/HDT handling in the recent beta cycle.

BTW, there's no such thing as HDG (heading) in NMEA. It's a misconception when we created this... There's either HDT (true heading) or HDM (magnetic heading) there may be both depending on your instruments. In the previous version, we only displayed one, I don't remember which. Now we switch to one or the other depending on received sentence.

I looked into this. In the latest Beta, this will be a small problem. We send the AIVDO (ownship) message to the Dashboard plugin all right. However, Dashboard does not know how to decode AIS, So we get nothing in the Dashboard if AIVDO transponder messages are the only source of ownship data.

In the latest Beta, there is a method to use the AIS decoder class as a helper to decode one AIVDO sentence.

AIS_Error AIS_Decoder::DecodeSingleVDO( const wxString& str, GenericPosDatEx *pos )

We could add a hook to this as a static method in the Pluginmanager, so that dashboard (and other plugins) may use it to handle AIVDO if they see it coming in the NMEA stream.

I'll do this for the next Beta.

Hi,
I still have a problem getting the ttyUSB0 port working in OpenCPN.
I have done the following:
In Group set dialout <username>, uucp <username>
Running minicom on ttyUSB0 gives full data.
Setting port in OpenCPN config to ttyUSB0 gives no data.
Running ls -l /dev/tty* gives crw-rw---T l root dialout 188, 0 Jan 1 1970 /dev/ttyUSB0

Running latest beta version with latest git pull on Debian.

What can be wrong??
