Re: Beta Test / Technical

smurphny...

The behavior you see is expected for ENC charts. ENCs must be converted to internal SENC format before use for navigation. This takes a little bit of time, depending on your system capabilities. But it only has to be done once, and the converted SENCs are stored on your system for later use.

All ECS systems must convert ENCs to SENCs. Some take longer, (like OpenCPN), so that subsequent access is faster. Some convert faster, leaving more work to do at the time of actual chart display. Its a design decision. OpenCPN is optimized for speed in real use, not for speed in conversion.

You should see no such delay on raster charts.

Hope this helps

The "Logfile" instructions are for Windows, which I don't have. I can't find an opencpn.log file.
The instructions regarding looking in the "?" "About OpenCPN" dialog is valid for all operating systems. There are also specific Mac instructions in the documentation on your system or in the opencpn.org wiki.

Here's the log file for OpenCPN crashing when "deleting all waypoints":

I am using Version 3.0.2 Build 2012-07-07 on a Mac.
If I understand you, the program does not crash, but hangs, and you feel that you have to "force quit"?

I created a route with 178 wpts, each containing 15 - 20 lines of description. Trying to delete all in one go, took a long time, up to 3 minutes. With real low spec system I guess that it could take much longer.
Have you tried to leave it, and see how long it actually takes?

Yes, it "hangs" rather than crashes. I've left it for 15 minutes to see if was just slow.

This is a new machine, MacBook Air, i5 intel, should be plenty fast.

I should add that I can delete one waypoint at a time, no problem. It's only when I try to delete all waypoints that it hangs.

OK, Exactly what kind of wpts are you talking about? Imported from any other program?

Re: Beta Test / Technical

No, they are all waypoints created in OpenCPN. Generally, they came from creating a route and dropping marks at turning points, then adding names and symbols to the waypoints. They were created and used from July to Sept. this summer, in the Great Lakes. I'm deleting them so that I can create a new list for my winter Florida cruising.

I should add that the waypoints were created in OpenCPN in Windows 7. I copied the waypoint file to my new MacBookAir with LionOS. It's on the Mac that the program hangs when trying to delete all waypoints.

Please test version 3.1.915. Check if your problem ha gone.
Some changes, possibly affecting your problem, are included.
If your problem isn't solved, I'll enter it in the tracker.
Hopefully it can be sorted out before the next stable release!

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Two issues with version 3.1.915:

1) The toolbox displayed in Windows XP is of the 'new look'. When displayed in Windows7 Ultimate it is the 'old style'. Pix below.

2) The Options screen when displayed in XP with a screen size of 1024x600 is too large to be used properly. Pix below.

Cagney..

I take it v. 3.1.915.dmg is not a Win7 compatible version?
