Don,
HamishB already posted a patch for this error in http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...tml#post538004
and it's in the current git code so the next beta should be ok.

I tried to install the new beta version 2.2.1025 with no luck. I got this error message: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem."
Reinstalling did not help. Has to revert to 2.1, this application run without problems.
I made a copy of the install log, maybe someone can understand this better than me!

You should have a look at the "system event log" to find out what part of the application did not load properly. Google is your friend here. I don't have much experience with the Event Log Viewer on win7 or vista.

Also, you could get. run and look at the output of "depends.exe opencpn.exe".

Thank you Dave for your quick response!
Well now I am in the dark.
I installed a program called "Event log explorer".
There are some info in this program when I try to start openCPN. What I get is this:

Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files\OpenCPN\opencpn.exe.
Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.

Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC90.CRT.
Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system
.

I am not sure if this information is usefull, but I hope this can help. Thanks for all help

The opencpn installer should be installing the correct Microsoft run-time package automatically, and it does so for most users.

I don't know why it does not for eeepc, so as a test....

If you could download from Microosft the runtime libraries and install them, as described in this link:

Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

You may then try opencpn again. You need not re-install opencpn for this test.

Thanks for helping

Same problem here with not being able to start 2.2 - and the C++ download fixed it.

One common thread that may help trouble shoot the instller is it seems to happen on "lower function" or home built machines. The netbooks might not come preinstalled with some critical file? And while my two commercial laptops installed and ran 2.2 fine, my home-built nav computer wouldn't.

I built that one up from scratch - installing XP SP2, updating it to SP3, installing each program and ap myself. BTW I run an Intel D510MO mini-ITX motherboard with the Atom duo core processor.

Just started using OpenCPN and must say it’s a nice program.

Currently using the Dutch inland waterway chars, but sometimes when I manually move around OpenCPN crashes. I also noticed a memory leak, the memory usage will constantly go up every second or so with 4KB.
I’m using windows 7 64Bits and tried the stable version as well as beta 1026, both give the same problems for me.

Error report for when OpenCPN craches, the exception code and offset are always the same.
Code:
Problem signature:

can't get past "Welcome Window" after installation

Have installed OpenCPN onto a newish computer (32bit, Win7 starter) but can't get past a "Welcome" window. OpenCPN is displayed in the Services window, but the program won't run. Clicking either button (accept/cancel) closes the window and then OpenCPN disappears from the Services window.

I've installed OpenCPN, without a hitch, on a number of computers - the first time I've come across this.

Thought this might be an OS problem but after searching through the forums, I came across http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...t-43470-3.html - post # 45; and http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...t-43470-4.html - post # 48

How can I fix this ? Would copying my OpenCPN roaming folder contents to the new install computer & making the necessary adjustments to the opencpn.ini fix the problem?

Thanks
Jill

Jill ...

what version of OCPN did you install?
If it's the latest beta (2.2.1026) I do not think that the point mentioned in #45 and #48 has anything to do with your problem.

I suspect that it has something to do with the Microsoft run-time package like described in #636 (a few posts up on this page).

Hi Gunther

Yes, latest beta installed. OK, so I'll do the Dr Watson dump - send the log to you (back in this thread) or Dave (in the thread #636 above) ?

Thanks

Here is the zip file for maps:https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B1yPz...download&hl=fr
