Dave, thanks again for the amazing amount of work on this. Build 929 is working perfect on XP with GPS and AIS, using BSB, ENC, and CM93 charts. I'll be running it to Ensenada Friday using CM93 charts, so I'll let you know if we see anything odd.

The only problem I see at all is the lack of column headings in the route properties dialog box under Windows Vista (it's fine under XP).

Congratulations, Dave
Yes, congratulations... this is looking like a solid release cantidate. With the amount of improvements, a 2.0 version number is almost warranted.

s57 ingestion bug

Here is a bug that probably should be addressed before release:

s57 chart ingestion hangs when there is gpsd input, opencpn cpu usage climbs to 100% & program is completely unresponsive.

this is in linux build 929

however, s57 chart ingestion does work when there is direct gps input from a serial port or no gps input. btw, i like the new ingestion progress bar.

side note/related feature request: perhaps we could create a comand line utility from s57chart.cpp that could batch ingest a folder or group of s57 charts... which could later integrate into the "vector charts" tab of the configuration dialog.

!.3.4 Released

All...
Here is the official release notice.

Code:
Opencpn Version 1.3.4 was released on 30 September, 2009.

This is a maintenance release containing the following enhancements:

1. Ship's position tracking function, with GPX export and import.
2. Enhanced icons and screen graphics, for improved visibility.
3. Import and export of Routes using GPX interface protocol.
4. Implement CM93 vector chart detail control slider.
5. Assorted usability and reliability improvements.

See the Changelog for full details.

Opencpn Version 1.3.4 may be downloaded from the following link:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/opencpn/

Thank you for your continued interest in opencpn.

Fair winds to all
Dave and the opencpn development team

Beta Testers:

With this formal release, I want to thank you all for your patient cooperation with me and the Beta process.

There is no substitute for thousands of keystrokes, mouse hits, and system configuration changes in order to root out hidden bugs, and you guys are the best. We found some bugs, for sure....

But more than just finding bugs and whining "Fix it!", you all helped isolate and reproduce the bug, suggested alternate codings or algorithms, and validated quickly the patched code. That tight feedback loop is rare in my experience, and I enjoyed the whole process. Even the "Bishop Hat" debate.... Thank you all.

What's next?
I'll take a few days code break, and then we will start working on the Feature list for the next release.

If anyone wants to get a head start, the first thing to do is Cut and Paste from the Feature Request thread and create a working document, with some structured format. Ideas?
Maybe this is the time to start a Wiki. Anyone know how to do that?

Anyway, thanks again.
I'm going to work on my boat some now. She feels neglected....

Dave

media wiki is available through sourceforge as a "hosted app" on opencpn.sourceforge.net . I would be willing to set it up ... opencpn.sourceforge.net/wiki . User contributable documentation and info on a wiki would be great. My sourceforge username is the same ... manimaul. PM me with any details you would like to see.

ps, thank you very much Dave & congrats on a fine release.

Will

1:10,000,000 scale RNC vertical pan problem

Dave,

I was trying to have a look at the Hawaiian Islands on a Western Pacific RNC with a scale of 1:10,000,00 and found that if the zoom level is above 0.69X, when I try to click and drag the chart in the vertical direction, the chart either will not move, or will move the wrong direction. I don't see the problem with charts that have a smaller scale, such as the 1:1,200,000 scale chart of the west coast. If I move the mouse to the top or bottom of the screen so that the scroll arrow appears, then click, the screen will scroll just fine. The problem only occurs when I click on the chart and try to drag it. It pans correctly in the horizontal directions when using either method.

I am running 64-bit Debian Linux on a dual-core Athlon with 4GB of ram, and have compiled the latest source from CVS using the GCC.

Is anybody else seeing this? Any suggestions Dave before I dive into the code and try to fix something that isn't really broken?

Cheers
Bill

mini bug:
same chart, the reclamation area is filled N of the airport,
maxsea shows it correct, oCPN only the outline

wishlist (others too)
Tides for the world, (Asia again is missing),
gridlines (did not find yet, maybee hidden?)
needs at least a simple drawing feature, like conway reef, to mark and store it forever.

Wa-Webfoot....

That particular chart probably has poor geo-referencing data embedded. We have seen that type of behavior before.

Could you send me the chart, and I'll have a look?

Tides - these are based on xtides, for lack of coverage consult this page, its the classic "naval agencies giving taxpayer-generated data as a gift for profitable exploitation by private companies"

gridlines - as in lat/long grid? I was trying to do that the other day, +1

drawing feature - there's a feature plan for a KML overlay that may permit this.. at some stage

Installing 1.32 and then 1.34 over top of it fixes crashes.. Clean install above means, no config files and no charts.

I know, but in WX_tide 32 the missing data is included and it is based on the same xtides. I can even import (copy) the stations from WXTidet32 to openCPN but have no access/knowledge/time2learn to bring the data in too.

Good point, well taken - wxtide is probably more liberal in its demands to the "freeness" and accuracy of the data (again, see page above). There must be a package to extend xtides by that extra data somewhere. The respective link on aforementioned page is dead unfortunately.. and no idea where one would put it into opencpn, or if it could be considered for permanent inclusion into the package (with a warning perhaps)?
