Bad grib display on Raspberry (Openplotter)

Bonne Année 2018 à tous

I've managed to compile O on a Raspberry 3 using the Openplotter distro. It works fine except for the grib display (see pics), for both grib files downloaded from Zygrib and qtVlm.

BTW, the grib mailto opens Chromium, and not Claws Mail. Firefox indicates that the default mailto is Claws. I am not expert enough in Rasbian to correct that, if at all possible...

Re: Bad grib display on Raspberry (Openplotter)

Hi,

best wishes for 2018.

The grafic-prob with the pi and the grib-plugin is not a new issue.

If you build from source you have to change two lines in the code.

Look here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...es-193335.html

and here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...-a-191065.html

For me I solved the prob with chromium by deinstall chromium and install claws as mail-program and epiphany as web-browser.

Regards

Andreas

Bonne Annee 2018 aussi,

here no problem with the grib display.

Using update in Open Plotter with Linux Stretch. Kernel version 4.9.73 and VC4 driver to on.

Works very well and fast, but you have to re-install Zygrib.

Re: Bad grib display on Raspberry (Openplotter)

Hi,

when you follow the links, you can read that I had the same prob. With the changes recommended by nohal (Pavel) -just the two lines in the code- the plugin works like expected (I´m using a raspi 2 with jessie).
You have to build from source but you managed this before

For the chromium / epyphany Problem...you can use the package-manager for deinstall / install the needed packages.

Regards

Andreas

Re: Bad grib display on Raspberry (Openplotter)

Hi,

Bram, I see in your pic, you using the chromium web browser?
How do you get a grib file? Do you use the build-in function (choose an area and then generate and send an E-Mail) from the grib-plugin of oc or do you use an other way?

When using the build-in mail function the grib-plugin seems to have a problem in combination of installing chromium as web browser. It starts to open a web-browser and then the mail-program. When it is the chromium-browser it´s not able to open the mail-program.

Regards

Andreas

Re: Bad grib display on Raspberry (Openplotter)

FWIW, with the current code from master, you should not need to patch the code manually anymore. Just set the physical display width correctly in the Toolbox and the grib plugin should honour it and work correctly.

Andreas,

it is really very simple. Install the Zygrib application. And with this application you can indicate the required area you like to receive and you can download the grib file of your choice.

Zygrib is in the repos. (sudo apt install zygrib)

Re: Bad grib display on Raspberry (Openplotter)

Hi,

Bram, thanks for your explanation.
Didn´t use the zygrib-plugin since yet. Only the build-in grib-plugin in OC. When using it with the raspberry it has the web-browser problem. But I´ll test your suggest, thanks.

Andreas,

the Zygrib arrange the required area and the items you like tot receive. Then download. And you get the latest grib file in the grib map.

Then the OpenCPN grib plugin uses the latest gribfile.

It is a combination of Zygrib download and then using the plugin in OpenCPN. Perhaps have tot redirect the O plugin to the gribs file map. The O plugin always takes the latest grib info. Sometimes you have to delete a lot of old grib files.

Regards,

Bram

Re: Bad grib display on Raspberry (Openplotter)

Hi,

Bram, the (little) prob is when using the build-in grib-plugin from OC for selecting an area of your choice and with the items you want, when you then click send E-Mail the plugin want´s to open the web-browser and then the mail-program.
With the chromium-browser the plugin can open chromium but is not able to open the mail-program. It stops after the opening of chromium.
With the epiphany browser it works without this problem. So I just throw away the chromium browser and reinstalled the epiphany browser (this was the standard jessie browser in the rasbian before they changing to chromium).
The other way is your way, using the zygrib-plugin. But when using this plugin you´ll only can get gribs from zygrib not from saildocs too like when using the buildin plugin of oc, right? But I don´t know if this is really an disadvantage or not.

Regards

Re: Bad grib display on Raspberry (Openplotter)

Andreas, would you mind writing this up so it is very clear, what happens, with screenshots if you wish, in the Tracker?

Put it under the Task Dropdown " 11- pi-Grib"
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...ay_orientation

Identify it as a Linux bug please, This "Select" function needs some improvement and could be simplified I think, but it might be limited by wxWidgets too. Thanks.

You'll need to register, then log in.

Andreas,

I don't see what your problem is. Zygrib does all you need for receiving Grib files.

Sources for downloads are NOAA-GFS standard NOAA-GFS Height and FNMOC-WW3 waves. And you can select all the items and the area you like to receive.

If I look at SAILDOCS display I see as source NOAA-GFS.

Regards,

Bram

Hi,

Bram, the problem is, that I didn´t use the zygrib-plugin since yet (and have no experience with it) .
I only use the build-in grib plugin from OC. This worked fine since the raspian default pre-installed web-browser changed from epiphany to chromium.
So I just changed the web-browser and it works.
The other way is to use the zygrib-plugin like you do. So I´ll give this a try, cause you said it works fine.

@rgleason: I can do this, but give me some time (a week or so)

Regards

Andreas
