1) Furuno data on Ethernet is proprietary. Only Furuno products talk that language (or the Maxsea software).
That's why I hate MaxSea

2) You need NMEA 0183 to communicate with OCPN.

3) The Furuno MFD will output sensor data (except radar) via a NMEA 0183 port and OCPN can use this.

4) I'm not familiar with the Furuno AP, but I would guess it has a NMEA 0183 port that is capable of taking 0183 BTW/XTE from OCPN.

5) Obtain a NMEA 0183 decoder (Actisense NMEA Reader?) and USB/RS232 adapter and start learning about your system.
Thanks, that's good info

I have the USB/RS232 adapter.
Is the 'NMEA 0183 decoder' hardware or software?

Then I will have to go and fiddle with that bundle of thin cables at the back of the MFD... looking forward to it

Software. And the good news, it's free. I would download the Actisense NMEA Reader.

The NavNet3D MFD will output NMEA 0183 at 4800 or 38400.

Have fun!

Re: Autopilot Track Following

I finally got the autopilot to read bearing .

As you told me RMC in addition to RMB was the difference. I thought that I had tried this last time I was in the boat, but I did several mistakes.
First I edited the config file when OpenCPN was running, it took some time to understand why my changes was gone .
Next I put the RMC sentence togehther with the autopilot, not with settings.
When I got this sorted out the pilot read bearing.
I did not have time to have a seatrial today to check if the stability on route navigation has improved, but it looks promising.

Thanks for all help!

Re: Autopilot Track Following

Further to this discussion, where exactly do I add the

Autopilot NMEA Sentence Out=RMB;RMC ?

Also, can I assume that OPCPN will put the wind data out on the same port as selected for autopilot?

It would be great to have a check box under the autopilot tab to select which sentences will be sent to the Autopilot Com port..

Thanks for this great program!

I believe OCPN will only put RMB & RMC out it's AP port. If you need wind data to the AP, you'll need to connect it directly to your wind machine.

Couldnt I just add VWR & MWV to the RMB;RMC ?

Why would you ask a question when you believe you already know the answer?

GWB...
You sure could, but currently nothing will happen. Feel free to describe you needs in a feature request in http://opencpn.org/ocpn/flyspray/index.php?project=6

Thanks Pavel! Do you mean that currently even though the OPCN can display wind data via the add ins, it cannot put it onto the autopilot port with the appropriate line added in the opencpn.ini file?
Thanks for your help

Would it be possible to have extra nmea sentences sent to the AP in the same way as RMC is added f.i. APB?

I'll give it a try myself as soon as I'm aboard too.

Thanks

Re: Autopilot Track Following

Just modified the ini-file and added
Quote:
[Settings]
AutoPilot NMEA Sentence Out=RMB;RMC
Checking the nmea sentences using the vdr-plugin, I did not get a --RMC sentence. I also tried by entering the sentence under the Autopilot section. No luck either.

Thanks in advance for your help!
