AusENC S-63 chart install problems.

Good Morning.

I recently added OpenCPN as a back up chart system. I purchased an S-63 coastal map from Australian Hydrographic through a supplier. From what I see these maps are supported by OpenCPN, so should not be an issue.
I Have purchased user permits from O-charts, I have added the fingerprint file and install permits on O-charts as well as added them on OpenCPN. I have imported the cell permits from the zip file supplied by hydro to OpenCPN. I am not sure what else I can do, however it seems not to be working, am I missing something please?

I have checked the quick guide, although have seen it before and is not of much use. If anyone has a very, very good idea of how to load these charts, assistance would be fantastic. Extremely frustrating, LOL..... Cheers

Re: AusENC S-63 chart install problems.

So you got to step 7 from the manual and tested the OpenCPN InstallPermit ok?

And then - step 8 - you imported first the cell permits (PERMIT.txt) and next the cells/charts (ENC_ROOT folder)?
At this step you should get prompted if you want to create the OpenCPN SENC files on-the-fly while importing the charts. Did you see this message?

How does your S-63 tab look like?
Any messages while installing?
Did you zoom in until you are getting the green chart indicators at the chart bar?

Where have you doubts about the S-63 step-by-step manual?

Although this works the same under all systems:
Your operating system? Versions of OpenCPN and the S-63 plug-in?

Re: AusENC S-63 chart install problems.

Hmmmmmmmm.....I have imported the cell permits, however possibly not the cell charts, this is the cell charts/updates tab? I had a look at that, however wasn't able to find the appropriate file. I am sure I unzipped everything that was sent. Are these located elsewhere? Although you have told me what I have missed, so its a great help, I am not too bright when it comes to computer files/extensions etc etc ect lol Cheers

PS: Actually I just checked the zip files that were sent, there are cell permits that I downloaded, however I see no cell charts.

Re: AusENC S-63 chart install problems.

At Import charts/updates you are requested to indicate the directory where the ENC_ROOT sits.

As you have unzipped the charts you got, go to this directory and there in there shall be something like enc_base and in that the ENC_Root.

One you have installed the base charts next you install the updates on top. There is another ENC_ROOT directory in the update set.
AHS publishes updates fortnightly. You can download them directly from their site. The base sets are produced twice year.

Re: AusENC S-63 chart install problems.

Cheers bcn
Its up and running, I downloaded the updates etc from the Hydro site, that actually was not in the supplied files, the additional files were located on the site. Its a relief, after 3 days messing around lol.
I have just recently added OpenCPN on my laptop, as a backup to the Lowrance. I also have a usb satellite GPS, I assume this will track my position on the map? Are you aware of any extra plug ins required for this?

Cheers for the very informative help.

Good to hear - finally the mountain is lower than it appears.

The USB might work out of the box. I would recommend to go through the manual that comes with OpenCPN - in the tool bar the "?" button.
Under Getting started and Communications you should find what you need to know.

If you run in troubles, you already know where to ask...
