Android Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet & OpenCPN

Son passed on his tablet to me. Intended use is as a chartplotter. It has an internal GPS. I was reading though the OpenCPN User's Manual (at least I think it was the User's Manual) and read a statement that OpenCpn is not compatible with - supported by the Android Operating system. Yes/no? Would be a shame if "no" but considering the price I have little room to complain.

friz...
I'm not sure I understand your question, but OpenCPN can be run on Android. You can get it as any other app from the Google Play Store.

Re: Android Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet & OpenCPN

OpenCPN runs on Android and uses the internal gps. Does this answer your question? It also connects to all boat instruments, AIS system etc. via wires or wirelessly.

On Google Play, I noticed two APPs named OpenCPN, I cannot tell what difference there is. As the developers. This can be done via Google Play or here at the forum too.

Cheers,
b.

The "free" OpenCPN app is an unsupported re-package of a rather old version, originally shipped in October 2015.

The "official" OpenCPN for Android app is fully supported by the author and is current up to the 4.4.0 release of OpenCPN.

Re: Android Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet & OpenCPN

Thanks for the help. Please, let's forget about my "not supported" statement. Went to google play and sure enough 2 versions of the OpenCPN Android app. One was from someone/something named Maison Automatique (sic?). Bad reviews but the price is right. The other was done by Dave Registar and has good reviews. Problem is there is a 9.95 price tag on it. Little confusion here. If OpenCPN is au gratis, I have it on my Windows 10 Laptop, how/why is google selling it?
I noticed the last response to my original post was signed by Dave (bdcat). Per chance is this Dave Registar the developer of the Android app?

Yes, Dave is the developer and once you get going with the supported Android app you should join the OpenCPN Android forum at OpenCPN Android Forum for the Purchased App

Enjoy the app ... a great tool.

Please excuse the typo Dave Register. Good link. Anyhow your version looks like the ticket. Thanks for taking the time to develop it. Rather new to Android/Google Play world but if Dave's product will help keep me off of sand bars, I am in. Thanks again shipmates.
