Re: Android Development Underway

Any plans to make this CM-93 compatible? Any other droid or ios apps that read CM-93?

Belizesailor:
If you want the total distance you will need to plot a course. I am not one to read the manual I played with Mx Mariner a bit and found how to plot a course and then how save it. The distance is displayed for that course (in marks manager).

No, my question was simply about MxMariner compatible chart coverage for Panama...none I can find listed on the web site.

That was my question; thanks for taking a crack at it. I am able to plot a route (is that what you mean by course?) and save it, and activate it. But at any place along it, I did not see how to see the total distance/ETA/etc. to the end of the route. I thought what was in Marks Manager was a static total distance of the route from start to finish. Why does a route ask for a plan speed if there is nothing calculated by that value? I'd like to be able to swipe aside the display that shows course and distance to next waypoint at the top of the chart and see distance, eta, time to go to end of route (or to tap any waypoint along the route and see distance etc to that point). I can quickly get a distance "as a crow flies" but usually routes are not that simple.

Re: Android Development Underway

Wow, where did 3/4 of my reply go?

You could do this, though a bit more work than other Navigation applications.
Plot a route then at the beginning of that route start recording a track. You can determine your position by subtracting the track from the route. You can determine your ETA by dividing the distance by the average speed.

I often break one route into a set of routes that provide me options of travel and stops. I would think that breaking a route up may be a benefit too.

My guess is the entered in speed value is structure for a future feature, such as what you are looking for.

Re: Android Development Underway

Thank you, that's a clever workaround... Although with tacking etc. the route minus the track traveled might not yield a meaningful value for distance to go.

Will, can we consider my question to be a MX Mariner feature request?

(With luck this is what you are calling "Basic Route Planning" in your roadmap for next release)

Re: Android Development Underway

Motor boater, we seldom tack, however it does happen.

I can see what you mean, the assumption you would approximate the route, but tacking would increase the traveled value and imply more route progress. You would need to determine a true scale value, which is possible by using that real time distance tool, however, again we would be limited to a straight line approximation. No free lunch, at least yet.

I also think your request for this as an enhancement would be great.
I would alos like to have the sweetening of the Mx Chart app. I have not been able to get it to work with more than about 50 charts. I would like to run this app with about 200 charts.

Re: Android Development Underway

A query from New Zealand I use MX Mariner on a Galaxy Tab 2 and is a great chartplotter. How ever I am also a golfer and I hear you say what is the connection. For several years our golf course at Omaha Beach NZ has been several years behind on google earth and of very poor quality which has limited the use of Golf aps on smartphones, a. to plot them and b. to even see what is on the course. I often look at satellite view on Maps and Google Earth to see if there is an update - no luck. However I was in satellite view on MX Mariner and yes there was a change although about 18 months old. Going back to Google Maps and Earth still displays the old data. I wonder if Maps and Earth look at local cached data which is old and MX Mariner goes to US cached data.

Any ideas on this or how I can contact Google to make them aware of it.

Will , could you look into the layering on the ICW route through lower Georgia and upper Florida . Particularly the Mud river cut on down through Fernandina. Going to a magnified level will give you the chart , but the larger chart blocks out different areas. So far ars the only discrepancies I've found.

Yeah, do you have a lat, long of the problem area? I just finished a 2 month stint of iOS work. And I'm eager to get back to MX. I have a 1/4 finished implementation of Active Captain that has been on hold in the mean time and some more advanced chart features in the works.

Dude, you know I'm excited about the Active Captain upgrade. How long ago did we discuss that add on?

Occurred again heading south through Sawpit Creek and another Mud River. Statute mile 735 all the way north to 63 green. Thanks for keeping at it! It has been spot on all the way down from the northern Chesapeake and remember it got me up the Sassafras River in the dark, with all the lit beacons removed for the winter

Ok, I'm an idiot. Forgot to change the displayed chart region. Doh!! Feeling stupid...

Would like to range out over .3nm without the chart disappearing.

The area around Palm Beach is funky too. Also the keys have to be zoomed in close to see the chart.

Any timeframe for an update??
