Re: Android Development Underway

I tried to install MX Tides on my Droid 3 (Gingerbread) and got the message "This item is not compatible with your device."

[QUOTE=manimaul;1247990]
If anyone know of harmonics available for additional areas please let me know. I'm aware of WXTide32. However, the harmonics are unreliable.

Nice job Will and thanks.

But since I am in the Philippines I have been using WxTide32 and, at least for the SE Asia area, have found them to be close enough.

Any chance of putting the WxTide32 harmonics in with a caveat? Something might be better than nothing? Especially with the caveat about NOT FOR NAVIGATION.

I'm using some more modern Android UI features in API v11+ which means MX Tides will run on Android 3.0 or greater. I elected to keep the code simple and only design for Android API v11 forward which is really where Android starts to come into it's own.

This is a good Idea. I think there is a way to bring the WxTide32 idx harmonics into the Xtide 2 tcd format with tcd-utils. Debian/Ubuntu users can apt-get install tcd-utilsI think. With tcd-utils installed, this command should generate a tcd hamonic when run in the same directory as HARMONIC and HARMONIC.idx.

Code:
$build_tide_db somename.tcd HARMONIC
For now, MX Tides will read any tcd files dropped into the <device storage path>/mxmariner/tideharmonics directory.

For a good and detailed explanation as to what tide stations are available in MX Tides and what happened to the rest, please see this post:

Thanks for the update, Will. It just gets better and better.

Now, all I need is for Sony to release that Xperia ZL Ultra waterproof phone with 6.4" screen. . . .

Thanks, yes the Xperia Z looks like a good choice being waterproof. I saw a demo where they submerged it in a tub of water.

If you like MX Mariner you should also check out the free app published by NOAA, MyNOAACharts. MyNOAACharts is using the open source component of MX Mariner for map display. NOAA is also using the MX Mariner map generation tools for their charts in the app: https://github.com/manimaul/MTCW

Will.....is it possible to point mxmariner and NOAA app to the same tile sets rather then running these in parallel?

Looking at the MxMariner site there appears to be good coverage for the Caribe in general, but none for Panama...true?

I'm not certain where MyNOAACharts is storing their chart regions. I'm pretty sure they are using the apps private data directory which I believe you can only read if you have root. And, I suspect they modified the meta-data format a bit to suit their app's needs.

In MX Mariner you can change the directory where data is stored by going to "menu-->Settings-->Storage".

OR (The Advanced Method)

If you want complete control... You could create a text file named "dir.config" and write the path you would like to store data in on the first line (ex. "/storage/sdcard0/mymxdata"). Place the "dir.config" file in the default "mxmariner" storage directory. Also, make sure the path you wrote down actually exists in the file system.

Re: Android Development Underway

I'm sorry if this is a common question; how do I determine total distance to the end of the active route from current position, time to go based on plan speed, and ETA? All it seems to tell me is the course and distance to the next point in the route. My crew are always asking me "how much longer" and "when will we get there" and then my nose is buried in a device for a long time figuring this out, when I seldom care about the answer. I've been using the measure tool to kind of rough out the total distance, there must be an easier way.

I'll take the silence as a "no".
