Anchor watch bugging

Hi everyone,

I have an issue with my anchor watch on OpenCPN. It won't stop ringing.
I delete it and created a new one, but as soon as it is set, it start ringing again.
Does someone know what can it be?
Thanks.

Look at the settings carefully and set them properly. Also read the User Manual for the plugin please. Then you will be able to ask specific questions.

Re: Anchor watch bugging

Sephina,

I know who you are, condolences, my dear.

Okay, what usually happens with our AIS based anchor alarm is that the swinging circle is somewhat too small. We have learned to enlarge it, with practice, not a lot, but enough to be realistic.

I don't know if this is true on your boat, but our AIS GPS is about 35 feet aft of the anchor roller, and this confounds its 'thinking."

How we are adjusting for this is when we are anchoring, just as Jim (sorry) goes forward to drop the anchor, I push the "anchor" button, and the boat is already in reverse, because he did that before he went forward. If you're doing it alone, put the engines in reverse, punch the button, and then release the anchor. Remember how much rode you have out, and set the alarm accordingly.

Re: Anchor watch bugging

Good point, set the anchor watch at the anchor location.

Re: Anchor watch bugging

Added this to the manual.
Stop False Alarms:
1. Set the Anchor Alert at the same time and place as the Anchor! - As close as possible.
2. Set the radius a little larger.
3. Make sure you have set the anchor properly so it is not dragging and there is adequate scope.
4. Anchor out of kelp in good holding ground.
5. Change your anchor location, shallower or deeper, different bottom.
6. Check your GPS nmea data stream to see if the GPS signal is reasonably constant.

Re: Anchor watch bugging

Thank you guys for your answers and condoléances !

In fact The problem was from the gps. For some reason It sometimes loose the connexion.
So as there is no switch to turn it on and off I had to disconnect the wire and reconnect it. Clear the anchor watch before and then everything is back to normal!

I am Learning learning !

Thank you again!
