AIS targets size

hello everybody
have anyone experienced very small size AIS target display?
there is a check box in "tools" >"ship"> "AIS targets"....."show AIS targets real size" but nothing change either way I set it
the only thing changing it, a bit, is if I set the "Ship scale factor" in "user interface" to +5 , but that also effect my ship dementions , and still, the green little triangle of the target are barely visible.

thanks Diego S/y Meccetroy

Re: AIS targets size

Is it not dependant upon what size the transmitting vessel has set up?

Diego - First, welcome to CF!

Try going to Options, User Interface, & turn on Enable Scaled Graphics Interface. That should make many things bigger on extremely high-res screens. You can also try playing with the scale factor sliders at the bottom. For both of these, I've found that just hitting [Apply] sometimes isn't good enough - you may have to click [OK] or even restart OpenCPN.

Re: AIS targets size

Hi Dave

Its 4 years I left Italy for a circumnavigation, I am in New Zealand, I use your program almost every day. So, first of all thankyou, great tool!
There is accelerated graphic in the "display> advanced" and there is "scaled graphic interface " in "tools>user interface" If I "flag" the first , I cannot have the size of my own ship over a certain size.
If I flag the second , cannot have the toolbar at a reasonable size.
If I slide the "ship factor to +5 , the situation is better for the AIS tagets, but my own ship is too big.
I tried all possible combinations. The size of the font for AIS target is to the minimum and I am using aerial standard .
the version is 4.8.8, but I had the same problem since I loaded 4.8.6 some months ago. Before ,same PC, window 10, never had problems.
regards Diego
PS : when you ask post the ...logfile... I do not understand...

Re: AIS targets size

Diego, your picture shows square corners on your blue charts along the bottom, which means you've turned off Chart Quilting. Strongly suggest that you turn that on (Options, Display, Enable Chart Quilting). However, this probably won't affect AIS target size.

Your logfile is in your C:\ProgramData\OpenCPN folder (OpenCPN.log). It's quite big, so you might want to zip it before posting it.

Also, the ProgramData folder is usually a hidden folder, so in Win10 you should search for Folder Options, open the File Explorer Options applet, go to the View tab, & select Show hidden files, folders, & drives. While you're in there, uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types, as it's a huge security hole.

Re: AIS targets size

In fact, I would say that it has been more than a year since the AIS target icons became almost invisible

And it doesn't just happen on high-resolution screens. It happens to me on all kinds of screens and even on the usual ones. Where before you could see correctly now you can barely see them and moving the slider to the number 5 hardly helps anything. Yes that increases a little owship icon but the AIS continue although they increase a little its size, being very small.

I fix it a bit by modifying the source code of the options.cpp file and increasing the slider figure from a maximum of 5 to a maximum of 10 and improves quite a bit although it is not ideal. Putting a higher figure doesn't seem to have any effect. I do not know enough programming to make a better tweak but at least for my Rpi with openplotter is an important improvement that I must apply if I want to see the AIS target over the chart.

Re: AIS targets size

According your logfile the screensize is set to 1600mm (1.6m). Somehow I don't think this is the correct value.

Try to set the right value. (Options -> Display - Advanced - Physical Screen Width.

Re: AIS targets size

Screen size was set to automatic, no idea where it is taking this value 1600mm , but in reality this is what's in the log....Anyway I set it to manual, and to 340mm and …….BINGO!
size of the ais targets back to normal, I had to restart the program....in order to make the change working
thank's a lot Rooiedirk! and to everybody I lost many hours trying to figured out by myself.....
