Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

Thomas..

My #60 had a long NMEA data stream attached using AIS Dispatcher.
Is that all you need from the VDR?

What does the entry DebugNMEA=3000 in the ini file do?Thanks for checking..

Pim..

Seems to be a lot of AIS targets in your area at the moment.

Pim..

Seems like your suggestion to re-plug the USB AIS interface may be the clue to the disappearing AIS targets.

It seems starting OCPN first, and THEN pluging in the USB AIS interface makes OCPN retain all AIS targets.

Publish your log file.

Tore ! The same data from your end would be good as well.

This may just help the developers to pinpoint the problem.

Thomas
Thanks Thomas, I will try, but where can I find: "the VDR - voyage data recorder" to download?

Hi Tore,

Starting up Open CPN without teh AIS plugged in doesn't work with me. After plugging in the AIS does not appear on the screen.

But I found a possible solution (for Windows 7), at least it keeps working a much longer time:

In the Windows 7 menu choose: "Computer" and right click on it. then choose "proporties", and the "device manager". Click on Ports (COM & LPT) choose the comport you use for the AIS and doubleclick on it (probably the prolific USB to Serial Comm Port....) then click on "port settings".
Windows 7 uses the standard speed for this port on 9600 bps, I tried to change this to 38400, but that didn't give any result, BUT: Click on "advanced" and than change the speed: 1. Recieve buffer from high 14 to 8 and Transmit buffer from high 14 to 10 and than save.

So far it keeps working now for over an hour. On my AIS object list are currently 100 (!) AIS ships visible. I am at anchor, so not moving. So I haven't tested it while sailing.

Maybe this gives an idea where to find the problem?

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

Thanks for the tip Pim...

I've altered the settings for my AIS COM: port so let's see how long it lasts.

Must be a fortune in yachts there. The night life must be great too!!

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

Pim/all...

It seems v 2.6.1524 has solved the error of the disappearing AIS targets,or a
combination changing the settings of my AIS COM: port.

My AIS targets have been displaying for hours without fail.

Thanks all..

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

Pim/all..

Seems I spoke to soon...all my AIS targets just disappeared again..
Unplug/pluging the serial/USB interface recovered all the targets once again.

Tore....

Solution must be in your COM port settings. I made no changes to AIS code for 1524.

Fingers crossed

Yes, AIS has to be 34.8k, while NMEA sentences come in at 4800. If your AIS is class B & has it's own GPS, that GPS data is coming in at 34.8k, since it's coming from the AIS.

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

The problems of AIS targets disappearing after a while seems to have been solved in the new v. 2.6.1624. BUT,we have an overload crash when connected to a world-wide AIS network. Dave is fixing this in the next release.
