AIS-Targetlist shows no range

Hi,

I installed OpenCPN on a W10 laptop with a sdr RTL stick. AIS signal is correctly received (aisdeco2 and network connection on OpenCPN).

OpenCPN shows ships with direction etc correctly on the chart.

But when I open the AIS target list, I can see not every detail, such as range.

Since I don't have a GPS reveiver on the laptop I thought that could be the problem and used the option "move boat Position here" to have my own boat placed on the chart (in grey since no GPS).
But that did not help, still no range.

Another issue:

The bearing is not shown as well in the AIS target list. But when I click a ship on the chart, it displays a bearing with the correct degree.

Anyone got an idea what the problem is?

Greetings
Alex

Alex,

You need a valid GPS data input to produce range and bearing data for AIS targets. It will not use the "move boat here" coordinate.

You can use the VDR plugin and create a text file containing the GPS coordinate you want. Then VDR plugin can read that file and send a valid GPS message to OpenCPN.
