Re: AIS 'Encoder' Info ?

@Paul - Sure, I can wait. I decided that writing my own AIS encoder would be too big a project to take on so I plan on adding "static" AIS targets into the scene instead. All I need the AIS simulator for is to create some NMEA strings that I can copy / paste into my simulator. Hopefully that'll work.

@Thomas - Thanks, I searched for the apps you referred to but didn't find them either.

You might ask Paul (phiggins) about his AIS simulator. He is currently often posting in another thread he started:

Re: AIS 'Encoder' Info ?

In addition, the US Coast Guard has documented some of the AIS message types on their Web Site: http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/?pageName=AIS

Also many of the AIS vendors have included sample AIS data on their web sites. Here is some sample data, although I have a sneaking suspicion rather than being from a vendor, it is actually a log from my own boat.

Re: AIS 'Encoder' Info ?

Here is a free and OpenSource implementation in .NET it works well too! It may have some errors in the XML message maps, but they are easy to fix. OpenSkipper Open Skipper - Browse /OpenSkipper/1.2 at SourceForge.net

Re: AIS 'Encoder' Info ?

Dear Paul.
I need to put meteorological information into an AIS equipment. Do you know how to encode the information? message 8, etc? Thank you. I am a microcontroller programmer.

Re: AIS 'Encoder' Info ?

The payload for an AIS Binary Broadcast Message (Type 8), Functional ID 31 (Meteorological and Hydrological Data ) can be found in the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Circular 289.
A copy can be found on the US Coastguard site https://www.navcen.uscg.gov/?pageName=AISReferences
