AIS, Camino 108W MacBookPro (MBP)

Hi Folks,

I am trying to use AIS with OpenCpn and the Camino 108W via wireless connection on my Mac Book Pro.

Problem is, that I have tons of targets in the AIS target list, but they display on the screen only for a second or less and thereafter disappear again.

A closer look to the target list also shows that any information beyond vessel name and a few other gets lost (fields are empty) also after being displayed for a second or less.

Any idea what to do?

BR

Klaus,
some more informations might be useful.
- Which OpenCPN version?
- Which connections settings?
- Are you able to make a VDR log and publish it here?

In case you are using 4.1.x you might check perhaps against this:
FS#1809 : AIS target not shown with local time set to UTC + 1

happens when (Local Time = UTC+1)
Reported for Windows but who knows...

Re: AIS, Camino 108W MacBookPro (MBP)

Hi Folks,

many thanks for your answers and please accept my apologies for answering so late.

I am running opencpn 4.0 (latest stable release). Connection is done wireless via port 192.168.2.1:3333 as recommended by the Camino guys. Protocol is TCP with priority 1, in:none, out:none.

What is a VDR log?

Time is UTC +1 (system time).

Hope this helps

Klaus,
VDR or Voyage Data Recorder is a plugin to save or replay NMEA data. You might download it here: PlugIns | Official OpenCPN Homepage

A recorded VDR file might help to investigate problems.

I'm wondering however why you receive tons of targets data as you wrote even when they disappear quickly. Normally you should receive target data around you within a circle of up to 50 miles at best conditions.

If there is no hint to find in your VDR file it might be needed perhaps to record a wireshark log of your network traffic. Wireshark is available for Mac OS X also and it sniffers the network connection.

Actually after disabling the "delete lost targets" function it works well. However ther mus be an issue somewhere.

Will publish a vdr log soon
