AIS Alarms

I have been using OpenCPN extensively now for a few thousand miles and have found it generally very stable and very good. There are a couple of usability issues that I would like to address but for the moment just this one.

When AIS target alarms and the AIS alert box comes up there are two buttons at the bottom 'Silence' and 'Acknowledge'. Hitting acknowledge momentarily closes the alert box but then it's back hogging screen real estate. On a smaller screen it is really a pain.

I believe that hitting acknowledge should close the dialog box but leave the dangerous target red etc.. It should not instantly re-alert. Perhaps a time or distance filter could be configured to re-trigger the alert if range is still closing after two minutes or if the target has reduced the range by 25 % or something like that.

Ideas?

As far as i can tell this affects all versions.

Cheers
Chris

Have you played around with the last option on the AIS tab, "Enable Target Alert Acknowledge timeout" ??

From the Wiki

Enable Target Alert Acknowledge timeout. Once a target alert is acknowledged, wait the set number of minutes before the alert comes up again (if still applicable).

Re: AIS Alarms

And perhaps a harbor mode that can be triggered?

(Alarms off? - nn meters/fathoms)

No I hadn't worked out what that was for! Thanks I'll give it a go - if it works it'll help for sure.
