A Poll for The Most Popular Feature Requests

This poll features all suggestions from the thread "The Most Popular Feature Requests ", put forward by more than one user. I have taken some liberty in editing and bundling suggestions.
The descriptions are very brief, but should indicate the intentions.
The poll will run for two weeks. Multiple selections are allowed, without restrictions, but it is recommended that you confine yourself to three options.
The old thread will be closed. Please use this thread for further comments.

What happened to own-boat scaling? That has been one of the most requested features forever!

FYI, one can set it now, by entering
Code:
VMG=<leg planned speed value>;
in the waypoint description field. E.g. VMG=3.6; This works for the next route leg.

A bit tedious, but for humanity...

I implemented this as the first step towards Simple Weather Routing - estimating the VMG on a fixed route from nearest GRIB point. However, I got stuck in the development process, encountering problems in the build setup. I recreated the environment now from scratch, but still I cannot build plugins...

But will they both read the GPS input? Are there any conflicts when you exit and start back up? What values are left in the ini files?

I'd bet there are conflicts. Could be they would be easy to address, but I think the hardest would be so only one instance reads the GPS. Then the GPS reading really needs to be it's own separate process so you can close your first window, but the second one still work. Gets complicated fast...

Dave and others, knowing the inner workings, probably have betters ideas of how to do it better/easier. But, I bet if it was really easy, they would have already done it.

But, as you might notice, I voted for it as one of my top 3.

Re: A Poll for The Most Popular Feature Requests

It is a great poll and I hope it will help OpenCPN team go ahead ind improve the software.

My strong vote for making the software available to tablet users - it looks like this is where the PC market is going and it looks like only a small fragment of the market is Windows. Thus I vote for either the i-Pad (US) or Android (elsewhere) version (or both?).

Cheers,
barnie

This might be possible to solve with a virtual output port in OpenCPN. If some selectable NMEA sentences are sent out on a virtual port it could be read by the second instance of OpenCPN.

I know it's possible. I was asking HappySeagull if it worked for them how they did it on their screen. (I'm pretty sure the answer is "No", but just asking...).

My point was that to make split screen work, or to allow multiple instances run, would take some programming. The way I read it, HappySeagull was implying that maybe we already had it, just didn't know. My post was just to say, no, I don't think so.

Re: A Poll for The Most Popular Feature Requests

Hmmmm being able to attach information to marks should have been on my wish list too, don't care about links as I rarely have internet access while at sea. Links to documents, sailing directions, images, and NTMs might be useful I guess.

Re: A Poll for The Most Popular Feature Requests

Exactly so, Dacust...I just mentioned in passing...BUT my gps is plugged in now...!and the gps is ok in each window on different charts. It's even refreshing in each without me clicking the title bar etc...Both are of course using the same port# .I'm not moving but the track is turned on in one instance.Oh,it's not a good test BUT if it isn't suitable, I wonder if you couldn't run the oldest version of OpenCPN alongside on a different port because it's config file is a totally separate one.
