4.0, skewed chart, OpenGL, BSB4 plugin

Make a route that involves a skewed chart. Zoom in so the skewed chart is displayed. Try to pan. When I do this under W7 & W8 the route appears to float over the chart. The route pans but not at the same speed as the chart so it moves relative to the chart. Disable OpenGL and the behaviour reverts to normal.

I've seen some bizarre behaviour involving skewed charts for several revisions now but this is the most egregious and it is completely unusable with OpenGL enabled.

bob...

This is possibly an untested corner case.
Are you showing skewed charts as north-up, or as natively skewed?

Thanks
Dave

North up.

I assume "untested corner case" means your Canadian tester failed to properly stress test the beta to which I plead guilty as charged.

Re: 4.0, skewed chart, OpenGL, BSB4 plugin

Traveling again today and I don't think it has anything to do with skewed charts. It's like O isn't scaling really large scale charts correctly. Coming into Pender Harbour today on a 1:12000 chart (Cdn 353501) as long as I kept the position centred the surrounding features were in the right places. If I turned off follow me, the further the boat was from centre screen the worse the distortion of the surroundings. Which was pretty alarming coming into Madeira Park, let me tell you.

Re: 4.0, skewed chart, OpenGL, BSB4 plugin

Bob...

Working on this issue today. Unfortunately, I find that I have no licensed BSB4 chart that is skewed. All my Maritime Canada BSB4 charts are native north up, so I will need to wait a bit until I can get some high speed internet to acquire a suitable test chart.

Meanwhile, though, I was experimenting with NOAA rasters.
I seem to be finding that (almost) ANY skewed chart in OpenGL mode has some trouble showing routes. Trouble happens in both north-up or native-up mode.

Could this be true? Seems like this would have been tested somewhere along the way, and we would be flooded with Flyspray issues on this.

So, could we have some testing, please, from all interested parties?
I'm looking at NOAA RNCs near Miami, on stock O4. Lots of skewed charts there, and on down into the Keys.

Please take a look at the attached, and try switching to different skewed charts. See if the route stays visible.

Something mysterious here...

Thanks
Dave

Re: 4.0, skewed chart, OpenGL, BSB4 plugin

If the charts are skewed more than 90 degrees, routes are not displayed with OpenGL.

We're underway right now Dave but I took a bunch of screenshots. When we get anchored I'll send you those along with my log. The behavior I'm seeing doesn’t require a skewed chart. It appears with any high resolution chart.

I sent you an email Dave with a Dropbox link. I believe the problem I am seeing is somehow related to Polyconic charts, whateverthehell they may be.

Maybe you already know this and were joking, but just in case: Polyconic is the "warped" coordinate system that prevents Greenland (and other high latitude locations) from showing up much larger than they actually are.

Technically this isn't exactly "polyconic," but to me it better demonstrates the concept of multiple "cones" to represent the globe:

Re: 4.0, skewed chart, OpenGL, BSB4 plugin

Dave, I banged on it a bit and couldn't get route to disappear. gl off or on, clear texture map, pan off into the blue and back.
