4.0 dmg hanging at welcome screen

I feel like the answer is probably here somewhere, but I cannot find it. I am trying to load OPENCPN.DMG and it is hanging at the welcome screen before crashing out. I have:
1) renamed opencpn.ini and a new one is NOT created

2) Here is my latest log entry:

I guess some users new to the Mac operating system still does not know what a dmg file is.

A lot of Mac software is delivered as a dmg file. It is similiar to an iso image and can be mounted to the OS like an external drive. When opened in Finder it shows in its window its contents, e.g. for OpenCPN_4.0.0.dmg you will see OpenCPN.app and this is the application. So OpenCPN.app must now be dragged from the mounted dmg to the application folder and NOT started out of the mounted dmg file. After that the dmg window can be closed and the mounted device OpenCPN_4.0.0.dmg can be ejected (dismounted).

Happily some supplementary plugins are now delivered as installer files with extension *.pkg. These installer files does what they should do when opened but *.dmg files sadly not.

So... I've been checking the wrong link and didn't see your comments - found them with a Google search.
1) I've mounted the originally downloaded dmg file (double click and it shows as OpenCPN_4.0.0 mounted in Finder) and drug the OpenCPN.app to Applications
2) Right clicking on OpenCPN.app and selecting Get Info shows OpenCPN.app
3) Double clicking or right clicking and selecting Open still hangs on the Welcome Screen, which eventually times out and crashes
4) opencpn.ini, located in /preferences/ is still not being recreated. Enabling the old ini and plist files does not help.
5) My MacOS is 10.6.8

I'm afraid Snow Leopard is not supported anymore. Try to update to Yosemite, it is for free.
