Re: 3.2 crashes repeatedly

Dave
Well that took about 6 pigs ears to achieve.
5 to get O started in ddd and 1 for him to fail.
This time O locked up.
All the other crashes have resulted in O shutting Down.

Is this enough??
I will keep playing with it till I pass out like O has been.
Might get some more results to post.

Re: 3.2 crashes repeatedly

redog....

Thanks for the screenshot.

This bug is fixed in upcoming 3.2.1 Service Release Beta, due out in a day or so.

FYI, the root cause seems to be unprintable characters in NMEA output stream....

Thanks again
Dave

Re: 3.2 crashes repeatedly

I upgraded to 3.2 recently on a PC running XP. The only plug-in is dashboard.
I have NMEA coming through serail converter and AIS separately from comar AIS.
I started having blue screen of death regularly. In addition I occasionally had the mouse go mad on computer start-up, cured by unplugging the serial-usb converter.
I have now given up on 3.2. I have also given up on taking GPS from the nmea and plugged a GPS aerial directly into the PC. Now seems stable

Bob,

I have a similar (though not identical) configuration, and have been getting blue screen of death errors under similar circumstances to yours. After much testing, I discovered that the errors stop if I turn off the COM output to my autopilot, and the errors occur repeatably within a couple hours if I have COM output turned on. That one setting seems to make the difference between crashing and no crashing.

If you are able, would you be willing to run an overnight test with the COM output to your autopilot turned off? This might further help isolate the problem.

Before seeing your thread I started my own to describe my problem. You can find that other thread here if you would like to compare notes.

Re: 3.2 crashes repeatedly

Haven't posted for a while but the crashes are still regular - just a long time apart. I need to be underway for about 6 hours in order to reliably cause a crash. I can make it happen at the dock but it takes a long time - overnight or longer. For a while I thought it was somehow related to Konni but I haven't had it installed for several months now and still get the crash.

I got the following off the MessySoft error reporting the last time it happened:

Faulting application opencpn.exe, version 3.2.2.0, faulting module opencpn.exe, version 3.2.2.0, fault address 0x00034a92.

Its not always convenient to do much troubleshooting immediately following the crash because O is my primary nav system. Often my biggest concern is not figuring out what caused the crash but rather getting the system back in operation again.
