bobmax...
What does "will not start" mean exactly? Nothing happens? It crashes with some error message? Something else? Can we have a look at your logfile?
It is in C:\ProgramData\opencpn

Re: 3.02 Not Starting

You can move your C:\Programdata\opencpn folder to some safe location, then reinstall, then try copying settings.ini and navobj.xml from your safe location back.

If it works then something else you did broke the install. If it doesn't work at this point you know it's your settings/navobj that are wrong, and we can have a look at them.

Note that C:\Programdata\opencpn is a hidden system folder by default on Win7, so you need to unhide it first.

To post opencn.log here, you have to rename it opencpn.log.doc.
This is a quirk in the forum rules.

Go to D:\ProgramData\opencpn\ and rename opencpn.ini. Call it for example opencpn.ini.old. Then start OpenCPN.
Try to attach opencpn.ini.old here. Remember to stick a ".doc" to the end of the file name. The programmers are interested to see what has happened.

Re: 3.02 Not Starting

bobmax....

Looks like bad .ini file and bad navobj file.

Code:
Error: Failed to convert file "D:\ProgramData\opencpn\opencpn.ini" to Unicode.

File D:\ProgramData\opencpn\navobj.xml seems not to be well-formed UTF-8 XML, used fallback ASCII format conversion - some text information might have not been imported.
I'd like to see both files, please. We should not crash or fail to run on bad input files, so this may be a real bug.

Thanks
Dave

Re: 3.02 Not Starting

the opencpn.ini file is empty and from what I can see the navobj.xml file is empty used notepad to open both. This is in the program data/open cpn folder.
Attached Files
File Type: doc navobj.xml.doc (2.0 KB, 56 views)
File Type: doc opencpn.ini.doc (7.6 KB, 51 views)

Re: 3.02 Not Starting

bobmax....

These two files are truly bogus. I will determine why OpenCPN fails to at least start up with them.

Meanwhile, you may safely delete them both. OCPN will use defaults for the .ini file. You may have useful automatic rolling backups of navobj.xml in D:/ProgramData/opencpn. They will be called navobj.xml.1, etc.

COPY THEM SOMEWHERE SAFE before you run OpenCPN again, as they are automatically rolled over, and you lose the oldest one for each invocation of OpenCPN.

Rename the "best" one as navobj.xml, and the contents will be automatically used by OCPN.

Re: 3.02 Not Starting

Hi Dave

Running branch Master on vista, I saw an opencpn crash that resulted in a blank opencpn.ini and a bad navobj.xml. Restart attempts yielded an opencpn.log similar to the one from bobmax.

I will try to trap it in the debugger. It only happened once, so it may be awhile. The crash occurred while quickly switching between ENC charts in quilted mode.

Re: 3.02 Not Starting

I was able to trap the fault by quickly switching charts. It was an uninitialized variable error at chcanv.cpp line 1454. Looking at JesperWe's latest commit, I see that the problem has been fixed.

Code:
 bool Quilt::BuildExtendedChartStack(bool b_fullscreen, int ref_db_index, ViewPort &vp_in)
{
    int reference_scale;
    int reference_type = -1;
    int reference_family;
    int quilt_proj;
