CM93 files unvisible using Ubuntu.
Assuming these are rar-files, try WinRar.
I understand the Ubuntu standard compressing program shows only empty files.
Hope this helps,
Len.

For Ubuntu, make sure you have ticked the "Multiverse" repository in Synaptic, or whatever package handler you are using. Then
Quote:
sudo apt-get install unrar
|
installs the right program.
There is a possibility that these rar archives are password protected, in this case the graphical program will just appear to hang.Use a command line instead.
then you may be asked for a password. This command unrar's the file in the present directory.
"man" unrar for the full story, as usual.

Charts not shown -3-
FYI, inspired by SailorF54, I removed all CM93 versions from my disks and only installed CM93 V2 2009. So there is no possibility for either program to open multiple instances of CM93, even if the program would be able to.
With the exact same, single set of CM93 V2 2009 charts, OpenCPN and MaxSea are showing the following.

tks for quick replay,
I have full tree of cm93/2 in a directory /cm93 (not compressed).
I have download the latest source (2.1.624a) thogether all needed library, compiled without any problem. I can see the S57 but can't the cmap.
In another computer/platform (osx) I download the binary vers. 1.3.6 (I'm will like to compile the latest) copy the same cmap and s57 charts and work perfectly.
tks.

Read the opencpn.log file in your home directory, it will give you a clue to what is going on. You can also publish it here, if you need more help. As you have had it working once, check that you now have the same file structure for cm93, as when it worked.

Dear Thomas,
your suggestion to looking the log file ha lighted on the problem !!
As you know linux is sensible letters upper/under and in the source code is not keep in consideration. I have copied the file CM93OBJ.DIC in both upper and lower letters and like a magic is run !. Please I don't know how to help the developers to improve this feature. I can fix it in the code but I don't know how to send to them.
Thanks to all of U.

64-Bit Ubuntu
Anyone having trouble with V2.1.0 and 64-Bit Ubuntu V10.04. I'm using a Garmin 76CSX. All looks well on startup but OpenCPN stops reading/updating position after a bit. The nmea log never displays anything. XGPS running concurrently continues to read GPS data.
Really liking the new version though.

svpresent....
Looking at 10d 42m North, 61d 40m West, with cm93-2009 and cm93-2010.
With 2009, I get the attached image.
opencpn.log entry tells the tale:
Code:
2009
09:26:37 AM: Loading CM93 cell /home/dsr/Desktop/Charts/CM93_May2009/02700840/E/03020894.E
09:26:37 AM: Loading CM93 cell /home/dsr/Desktop/Charts/CM93_May2009/02700840/E/03020895.E
09:26:38 AM: Loading CM93 cell /home/dsr/Desktop/Charts/CM93_May2009/02700840/D/03000894.D
Code:
2010
09:25:03 AM: Loading CM93 cell /home/dsr/Desktop/Charts/CM93_January2010/CM93/02700840/D/03000894.D
09:25:03 AM: Loading CM93 cell /home/dsr/Desktop/Charts/CM93_January2010/CM93/02700840/C/02940888.C
Note that cm93-2010 does not include an "E" scale chart for the indicated region. cm93-2009 looks complete, at least for me.
Have a look at your log entries when loading this area, and compare to the above
Thanks
Dave

Dave,
Thanks for that info, but i can't locate any opencpn.log-file even with Opencpn running and using CM93 charts.
I would sure like to know which CMAP-file I am using at the time.
Do I have to enable a feature somewhere to get a log-file?
Secondly, where you definitely showed me you can see the soundings in the NE part of Scotland bay, my Opencpn won't show them.
Of course one would think I am missing a file in my copy of CM93 but.....
Using the exact same file, MaxSea does show them.
Any idea's why this could be?
Thanks for your time.
Len.

bdbcat & svpresent
Using the cm93 2009 charts I can, reproduce both scenarios, strange but true.
If I'm approaching the area from W I can reproduce the same thing as svpresent, see first two pictures below.
If I later home in on Port of Spain Area and then approach the area from E, I see the same thing as Dave, and it stays like that, until I do a full chart database rebuild. Then I can start from the beginning again.
svpresent: to find your log-file, read this Installing OpenCPN | Official OpenCPN Homepage

cagney,
100% correct, when I zoom in on Port of Spain and go west the detailed map stays completely intact. Also no more vanishing details when the area isn't more or less exactly in the middle of the screen.
And thanks for the RTFM tip

Old Linux bug
An old, Linux only, bug surfaced once again for me today.
It has to do with the names of Swedish charts. The second picture below, shows the original names. This creates a crash - check the last picture.
If the files are renamed as in the first picture, there is no problem at all.
It is not the names in themselves, it seems like, single files passes without a problem......But trying to load 378 files, altogether 1.4 gig, always creates a crash in Ubuntu.

Thomas....
If I interpret the ddd dump correctly, the problem appears to be in the path of the chart file, not the file name itself.
Could we see the last few lines of the logfile just before a crash?
Thanks
Dave
