Thanks all. I really like this Hanns G model but looks like bulkhead mounting might be a pain.

The Newegg site is pretty slick in that for some they give a good picture of the back that you can zoom in to see input voltage. Might take a trip out to Sams tonight too.

If you're going to do a bulkhead mount, there are dozens of VESA mounts available - but if your monitor/TV doesn't have the holes, you're outta luck. That (VESA capable) was one of my knockouts for what I chose.

I'm going to be AFK for a while, but I have links for various VESA mounts if you need them.

Indeed. It's how I ended up with the MagInnovision, an internet order, as I couldn't find any retailer.

TVs are somewhat more likely to have VESA points, but some of them have the challenge of a pinned (vs open) barrel connector for the power, less (well, I didn't succeed at all) available than the usual barrel pigtails.

The smallest of the ones I cited in MI is very inexpensive in various on-line places, but it might be too big for your application. I got the 24" and was a bit challenged :{)) - I'd have been better off, and much cheaper, to have gotten the next smaller one (apparently that's the one where all the action is, as it's notably less expensive than mine, and not all that much more than the smallest one).

However, you'll love the LED screens...

I don't recall if that's the smallest one. However, my (admittedly foggy, as I didn't really consider that model) memory had it at 1920x1080...

An utterly low tech approach to imroving screen visiblity in sunlight is to install a glare shield over the top of the monitor. It will make a very visible improvement on any monitor and costs nothing.

The bulkhead I'm mounting to is wide enough for 19" as most are about 17.5" wide. I'm not 100% sure this one is 12v but I suspect so since the reference an ac converter. Is 1440 x 900 bad? I'm using it for navigation software and web stuff. Have a 32" tv for movies so I don't so much care if the computer monitor is HD. Price seems pretty good and it's wall mountable.

$99 is a great price, wall mountable is "sorta" - it takes a 75 rather than 100 VESA (or, I'd presume so as the largest one does), which means that you have to be careful not to have the edges of the typical 75-100 mount block both the power and speaker-out, in the case of an X-shaped mount, or all the connection points in the case of a plate-type.

Worse, if you wanted it to be tight to the wall (perhaps, as in my case, to put it at an acceptable distance from my eyes), and got a very low-profile unit, even if you DID deal with the 75-100 challenge, the connections come out rather than down. Even L-shaped connectors might be too deep.

In my case, as I valued not having to deal with adapters, carving great chunks of metal, and the like, I went with an X-shaped one which required only a small relieving of the two bottom legs with a grinder to allow the power and speaker-out cords to miss the overhanging 100 holes. Due to how I sit vs where the screen has to go to miss my gauges being covered, and the height to allow access to the DVD and USB slots on my computer, the fact that this mount also had a tilt-swivel function was enough to overcome my objection to the 3.5" it sits from the wall.

The first picture is looking over my shoulder. Second is from where I sit. Third is how it's mounted. To dismount the base, remove the screw from the black bar where it swivels. That will disengage the turn-resistant (so it stays at the angle you put it) post, and you can lift that "T" off the pin on the other side.

In our case, I leave the T attached to the base; when we watch a movie, we remove it from the wall (remove the black strap in the pic and lift out of the receiver) and reattach that screw. Undo and store the screw on the post and drop it back on the receiver for wall mounting, putting the strap back on to prevent lift in the event of a knockdown :{))

Nav tables aren't what they used to be, what with chartplotters and all that. Indeed, before we bought the boat, the radar used to be where (the teak trim around the plate I made to fill the hole) the monitor hangs. What good is radar below, where you can't see what's in front of you?? The owner, when they bought a small chartplotter with a radar display on it, instead mounted two huge SSB/Ham units in that same hole. As I couldn't prove them out (not enough experience at the time of our survey to know where to go test them), and they were dinosaurs, to boot, I removed them in favor of the IC-M802 you see under and to the right of the old GPS.

Thus, a more appropriate label would be "desk" - if we want to spread out a chart, we use the salon table; otherwise we keep them in the cockpit (the sections we're using, of course, not the entire inventory - that 2' tall stack is stored under the settee in front of the nav desk) to compare to the chartplotter, and to enter waypoints onto; all route planning is done with paper.

That non-black item visible in the upper left of the first photo is the old GPS, which you could use to enter waypoints and directions to interface to the autopilot. Nearly all of that (GPS and autopilot functions) now reside in the chartplotter...

I agree that a better picture would have been of a CF thread, but it happened to be what was up at the time!

Probably are. I've looked into several daylight viewable, marine grade monitors. Small ones started around $1000 and went up from there.
