Sure it is, but OP removed the financial limit so all this "what you can afford" is off topic. A Beneteau 50 will do better than a Beneteau 30, for example. On the other hand, I may have been able to afford a $3m 62' Oyster but I opted for the 4x cheaper 64' Sundeer because I think it is a better boat for this purpose. So no, it is not a fantasy where throwing more money at it is always better either.

For all that I am convinced that boats like Sundeer or Amel are the best option. These are designed for cruising, the rest for chartering or racing or showing off with business contacts or woman.

I find it logical to live on the boat when you circumnavigate; can't imagine it any other way (somebody remarked about that)

I can only speak for myself and give my opinion which derives from my personal experience. For me the money is always a factor. Yes it would be nice to splash cash around but at some remote locations even loads of cash may not help you to get over an issue or problem with the boat. The boat for me is somethong I can reasonably maintain, and the bigger the boat the harder and more expensive it gets. Im quite happy with my current boat although it often feels there are too many things to service and maintain. But so there always is.

There are always a couple of pretty nice Tayana 37's for sale if money really isnt an issue buy me one and give me some more for expenses Ill tell you in a few years if it was the right one ..

really everyone seems to have covered it by now.. it is a situation of compromise what is right for you might not be what is right for me.

With an older Tayana 37, you'll need to budget for some fitting out -- there are a couple of big projects, such as a deck recore (probably) and chainplate replacement (yes) that need to be factored in. Tayanas are exceptionally strong, well-made boats, but there are some issues with the older ones (as there are for any boat that's 30+ years old). And not to start a flame war, but there are a couple of boats that shall remain nameless that we are constantly told are just fine for the open ocean. Maybe so, but when is the last time you saw a 30-year-old fill in the blank.

One of the primary factors as to why I'm recommending the Oyster 625 is for Oyster's first rate worldwide customer service and support. Just the other day, I emailed Eloisa at Oyster customer service from the USA and ordered 10 different spare parts from 10 different vendors; she assured me that the package will be waiting for me upon my arrival in Menorca, Spain on Monday. The price was the same, if not cheaper than if I'd hunted down each item myself.


Don't underestimate how important it is to have this kind of support after you buy the boat.

Some of these kind of posts get ridiculed for various reasons but mainly that this cannot be answered for you, and there are hundreds if not thousands of pages, devoted to the best boat, that are available via the search engines. There's no real point in everyone reposting all that info.

I love yer time line. You couldn't even read all the literature in two years. The usual new buyer would take more than two years to pick out a boat. Even naming a boat can take longer than that. It's easier with unlimited funds but is that really yer case? You're asking for too much effort on our parts, without much on yer part.

Grab a few beers and search a bit. Lots of good reading here. In a very short time an intelligent person knowing little about boats will be able to figure out whom to trust/ignore. Good luck on yer adventure.

With a big budget, I think some good suggestions have already been made. If you're on a tighter budget, look at the Tayana 37 or others with similar features.

I think anything between a Contessa 26 (type generic) and a Deerfoot/Bougainvillea (type generic) will be best.

I would chose a moderately classic boat if she were to be towards the small end and modern, lighter design towards the longer end.

An owner and their partner - that's two. How many crew then?

One thing with the 625 they did make a huge effort to improve the layout over their earlier designs.

BTW Maximum luxury is elsewhere. Oyster is just a middle class dream.
