Easy on the 70 friend! I am 75, purchased a Leopard 45 last year, Sailed it with my Son and friends from BVI to San Felipe, Mexico. Our plan is to sail/explore Sea of Cortez for the next one to two years. We then plan to sail south to Peru, West to South Pacific and back to San Felipe. That puts me at 78-79. OK. I will admit, "I am not as good as I ones was. But I am just as good once as I ever was". Don't sell yourself short. You are only as old as you feel. Stay active. Stay away from doctors. I have not been to one since I was 14 years old. He took out my appendix (it was needed)!

At our age we don't qualify until 67 years old. At 53 I have cheated death more than once. While I am attempting to be positive. How do you know if you will be alive at 67?
Believe me I have been back to work many times in the name of resources.
The bottom line is each and every one of us has to decide how much we need. When it is time to go and if we waited too late? Only you can answer that. My friend made over 100k a year in US and saved nothing.
She now lives well on little retirement in Mexico.

This is a very personal choice. Financial advisors always think you need more than you do.

Well if that's how you sit around doubt you'll last till your 70's... your lower back will stop you.. no matter how 'cool' it looks..

I have 2 different cruising kitty spreadsheets, one for collecting SS at 62 and one at 67.

Unless I think I'm making it past 87 collecting at 62 is better for me.

Back to one of my original posts. This cruising thing doesn't have to be an all or nothing proposition. Most of the successful cruising couples we meet only cruise half the year, which leaves the other half for work and family.

Maybe the OP can find a good balance.

My friend lives off retirement.
She would not ve able to live otherwise. It is conservative but it works!
