Re: KA LUNK

Good on ya, Zee. Progress is happening right before your eyes! Too bad we can't twitch our noses and make it happen in our own time frames!

Keep up the good work.

Re: KA LUNK

WHOOOOOOT!!!!!! the machinist found the engine number creating an easier method of ordering parts...lol we are now negotiating for lower pricing...and mechanic asked what colors i prefer on engine and how many colors..i told him it is up to him..he wants to perkins-ize it, but i am on a roll, so i told him it is his artistic decision.. we see what we get....

Re: KA LUNK

i was able to speak with tradewinds. alex has a good handle on parts and seems the lack of numerals imprinted only meant older than dirt.... he had quote for rebuild kit for me at 861 usd without numbers.
and so now we try to negotiate the price some..just down 3000 pesos will make it so i can get this finished in 2 months.. i was promised engine in boat 2 weeks after final payment... that will be somewhere mid april, iff we can negotiate down some. i already referred one additional client, so mebbe these folks will work with me..lol is all good... if i dont get a break, i will be 3 months waiting.
may 1 i return to marina. then we decide how to create a fuel tank from nada...mebbe cardboard and epoxy and fiberglass..... we see....
and mechanic will paint the color he desires on block.....

Re: KA LUNK

UPDATE:
ok so in end august, my engine ran same day my best brother died.,. ok. so for every good thing, something bad has to happen. fawkkkededuppeded.....
yes i went to phoenix to be with momma and dad and sibs remaining for a week. yes it was a good visit (from hell).
hate the reason but it was good to see family again and say my good byes i never sed when i left april 2011.

my freeking partner in crime is now dead.

ok i can deal with that.

back to ka lunk...... runs sounds wonderful!!!!! and still needs tank and guages
and things that need to be added... alternator now has a regulator, for first time in ..well, since i got this boat....
batteries are still good.
i think i have only 2 (hopefully have that many ) systems still functioning...
yes, ships n sailors ROT in port... badly.... my feet itch soo bad to get back out into open ocean and breathe in loooong deeep breaths of the awesome ocean air...

good news is there is a good and inexpensive alternative to johnco in barra de navidad. learn spanish.
there is also a wonderful electrician, has experience with marine electricity, and there is an interpreter, as well... excellent combo fro repairing in barra. the electriciaqn is known as the best in this area.. lol i rock... he rebuilt 2 unrebuildable (HA HA HA ) starters! and made more efficient the wiring to engine--was a total spidey web...
do not expect english and inexpensive in same sentence here.. ever.
secret-- wherever there is a big port, there are excellent locals as mechanics., just go a lil out of your way and either get a translator or learn spanish. you will not be disappointed.
when i first enter a new area i check the place out and find a good highly placed and / or knowledgeable facilitator.
this soul finds me mechanics, parts, whatever my boat needs. is always a local usually a fisherman or diver or similar. got lucky here--my facilitator is the husband of colimillas mayor...lol. ye think he might know folks?!!! i was turned on to him by a lovely lady i have yet to personally meet, but i will meet soon, and a(also yet unmet ) friend calls self timara sailboat.

and so ka lunk is improving.
at rest, but runs occasionally with jerry jug set up for fuel and no guages, but we will set out for the anchorage in end nov

a) with engine running
and

b) with long term crew...
will update as needed....

i think my bro is a guardian angel-- moved the vance storm out of my way, sorry, baja. is another coming to you guys. i hope it weakens before getting there.

Re: KA LUNK

Zee,

Sorry the words are trite, but so sorry for your loss. Jim's been my partner in crime, and I can only imagine how devastating that would be.

Good on saying your goodbyes. Mas vale tarde que nunca.

Good on the progress with your engine Poco a poco se va lejos.

Keep up the good work.

All the best,

Ann & Jim
