Very realistic! Buy a laser w/dolley right now for $1500 and sail and race
the crap out of it 3-4x week until you know what you are doing. Then join a keelboat race
crew to get the feel and tempo of that world. In the interim, read everything you can about long-term blue water
cruising (not just about boats!) Then the hunt begins for a boat suited to your needs. Yachtworld is a great place to indulge in sail porn (as my girlfriend calls it) and comparison shop. The best book I read was Don Casey's 'Inspecting the Aging Sailboat'. Look at a dozen different boats locallyin short succession - even if they are of no interest - to get an idea of how to properly inspect a boat and what to look for. Downsize your life in anticipation of living aboard
. Get rid of everything extraneous and then sell half of what remains! (Divorce worked well for me). Lots of great boats at decent prices are available-due diligence is self-evident! Good luck...
