How to Find a Quiet Cabin Fan?

Planning extended sailing trip this summer and wanted to upgrade our cabin fans with quieter fans.
Any suggestions?

Hotwire! We ditched our Hella and caframo fans for these...

They are not necessarily quiet (they have a clean high pitched white noise) but they DO NOT wobble, click, squeal, vibrate, etc... they come with a 12 volt plug attached but we mounted them permanently.

If you are handy you can go to a computer supply store and get some computer cooling fans and grills. They are small, quiet and fairly inexpensive.
The downside is they don't move a lot of air. You'd need one per person so they can aim them at themselves, or use them just for air circulation.
For mounting purposes, you can get pretty much any type of wood you desire and cut it in any pattern you choose to use for a mount or a stand.

The "Endless Breeze" 12 volt fan is great. Lots of air, quite and just the thing for a hot still night.

Our two Calframo are quiet on low power, and much easier to keep clean than our Hella (also quiet on low speed). I don't think I'll be buying any more Hellas. FWIW

Darn! I was hoping I'd learn a new sailing term: "cabin fens".

Oh, btw, larger, slower fans are quieter than smaller, fast ones.

+1 on this. We have been replacing our failing Hella fans with the Calframos.

Just installed a new Caframo 757. Quiet and moves lots of air. New base design does much better at dampening vibration than old. Way easier to adjust too.

Why you would want one in your cabin is beyond me.

Because they're quite.

This topic was well thrashed a couple of months ago. You might look at Best Cabin Fan? for more info.

Not everybody's first language is English and people make mistakes.
This is international forum and maybe some tolerance for spelling mistakes of "non English speaking" should be present.
Omg, with that attitude you better not go cruising anywhere out of English speaking area... Because not everybody English is perfect,
By they way how many languages do you speak? I do 9 and non of them perfectly ;-)
Tolerance is important in life and especially in cruising....

Re: How to find a quite cabin fen?

Yeah, but everybody can poke a little fun form time to time, no harm, most of us make silly mistakes. I can't type for squat, I all the time for some reason type baot instead of boat and insert random letters?
Many others in just this thread alone used quiet and quite interchangeably if you notice.

If it weren't for spell check, I'd be sunk

Nobody's perfect and most can spot a little ribbing that is in good nature. Now there are some snotty remarks thrown around here and there, but I don't think this one was.

On edit, I speak one language poorly, and one just well enough to order beer and ask where the bathroom is, buy a little food etc. People that are multi-lingual impress me greatly, I see it as a real advantage, I'm just too ignorant to learn apparently
