As mentioned, you didn't really all spend $9 for the dock. You each spent $8.33 for the dock and $.067 for the tip.

So here's the next question- who spent more than the other two? If 1/3 equals 0.333333(repeating) and 2/3 equals 0.666666(repeating), why doesn't 3/3 equal 0.99999(repeating)? One third must be bigger than the other 2 if 3/3 actually equals 1!
