weavis:

The staysail furler, which had been attached to the deck by a hyfield lever, came agley in moderate winds, but large, conglicting seas. As it happens, it was squally, so movement on deck needed to be careful because everything was slippery except the non-skid, i. e. handholds were not secure, from both sea water splashes and the rain squalls. Eventually, we got it lashed securely, but due to the wind, the sail unrolled itself and flogged considerably. It's toast. The furler has some damage. AT this point we're trying to locate parts for it here in Australia. May have to pony up for a new furler. Then contract for a new sail.

All in all, a minor incident, which although scary, is only going to be costly.

Oh, yeah, it's Mrs. Ann :-)

Sorry for the thread drift.

Ann

Ann
bummer...... I decided years ago to always stick with the common easily available bits and pieces even if I would like something different. It does not sound cheap if a replacement is in order. Sorry for your luck on that one.
Oh... "Miss" is a Southern USA thing. Its a traditional mark of respect for ladies..... probably the tradition is dying out now...... you would be Mrs Cate but "Miss Ann"
Go figure.

This seems appropriate to Ann's post above.

Many years ago, while sorta cohabitation with my soon to be ex I spent a lot of time sleeping on the back porch. I'd wake up to watch this robin diligently building her nest, minding the eggs, feeding a growing family, working her ass off. At the end she looked harried and worn if such a thing is possible of a robin.

While watching her this one afternoon, her fat brood perched around the over burdened nest, screaming "feed me, feed me" she approached the nest and pulled out a twig. Then another. And then proceeded to utterly destroy the nest, shredding it till no two sticks stuck. GONE!

Then she flew off.

The brood brooded for a bit, but one by one they too flew off, on their own at last.

Re: Challenge: Overcoming Major Hurdle to World Cruise: Convincing the Wife !

Lots of that problem on my boat to. Three advise that will help after 7 year I am figuring what I could have done better. Charter a catamaran in BVI with peoples that she will trust, that are CALM, and good sailor's. No kids. Most women are afraid you have to reassure here first. When she think sailing is fun and safe and is interested. Buy a boat in Florida including here in the choice. Than go sailing with a knowledgeable person in mechanic and repair and anchoring. Learn every thing there is to know about the boat. Go for a cruise in the Bahamas. This should take u two month. Than during the peak season take your wife for a trip. Think really hard to bring the kid or not might make it better or worst. Than she need to learn to sail (I would delegate that part) and make her join 'women who sail 'on facebook. In that order don't skip a work. You have about 5% chance of successfully play your card right and you will do it. PM me for more advise

Only boat I've ever named after a female was my Tiki 21 'KALI'...
