Challenge: Has Your To-Do List Got You Tied to the Dock ?

My weakness is that I decide that whilst doing a) it makes sense to tackle b) - and if doing b) then it would be the ideal time to do c).........even if little of it actually in need of fixing - just a bit of refurb ............I look at it as future maintanence - in the bank

Also having a tendency to kip in the afternoons. and no great dreams of adventure plays a part in being tied to the dock. But in some ways I have probably already arrived - fiddling around with a screwdriver, a wander ashore for lunch and having a kip in the afternoon.......am just saving all that long distance getting wet stuff

You are of course in a class by yourself.... most of us only need to fix rigging and bleed injectors and such.... You on the other hand need six 500amp 220 lines and a new flux capacitor....AND space in the parking lot for a rolling behemouth full of infernal experiments.

By the way, I made my own RBT yesterday.. My son in the dink with outboard. The neighbors take a dim view of such carrying on as it indicates (apparently) some form of moral decay. Well, it works for me and supertankers too.

I have a couple of absolute to do’s before any serious passages, though nothing too serious stopping me having her in a basic seaworthy condition tommorrow. Probably nothing even stopping me sailing her away within a week. Lot of stuff I can fix on the way especially if I get the boat closer to home. As such, the above seems like good advice!

I had a go once at some guy (Not DOJ) whose list was long of unimportant things and vastly short of real things. I got a quiet PM from somone who kew him: He doesn't want to go cruising. He is more happy tinkering on his boat and wandering the dock chatting to people etc

But for those that do, genuinely want to go then you will only ever go by going. Not by working on your list. The 'list' doesnt exist, its all in the imagination. OK theres some people with whoppin holes in their boats bottoms, etc but you know what I mean.


Further, there are some of the most wonderfully beautiful areas to fix your boat in 'Paradise'. East coast USA has the Caribbean; Europe has Turkey, Mallorca; Australia has Asia and West Coast USA has.... has......... well, the West Coast USA.... has Hollyood so you can just fix it with foam, paint and gaffer tape Just Green Screen it

I have a "to do" list. Nothing on it would stop me from leaving today! If it was that important I already HAD to fix to make the boat sailable (almost always a wiring thing). Most of the stuff could be done anywhere and anytime, even underway during a nice calm period. And this is on a 1988 boat that never to my knowledge has had one of these money pit "refits" I read about all the time!

I think CF should have a "Tied to the Dock" forum - with 2 sections:-

a) Desperately trying to cast off

b) tied to the Dock and don't care


Just sayin'.............

- design and purchase the rigging,
- wait another 25 years till our retirement,
- etc..

My 'ESSENTIALS' on my list is sealing all deck fittings and the hull deck join, a toilet(tho' I do have a bucket) and the new Vetus forehatch....
I am SO fed up with a soggy bed... the rest is mainly cosmetic....
