I ordered an EV200 Raymarine autopilot with linear drive. Problem is the drive unit is too long for the space I have. Space required is 31 1/2" from center. This gives room for the mounting bracket (4") and the drive unit at center helm position (27 1/2")

I only have 26 1/2". My transom if very narrow where the quadrant is.

So...

Is there a good quality autopilot on the market that will fit in this space? Obviously this one won't, even with a modification of the bracket.

Thanks

Hi. How did you get on? Was looking at diy installation of the EV200 linear drive for a B Oceanis 411. Would it have been a simple ish project had there been enough room to mount it.
Thanks. Hope all turned out well.

Re: Autopilot installation problem

My Dickerson 37 has a special tiller arm for the autopilot. As noted the hydraulic ram is 90 degrees to the tiller arm when the rudder is straight ahead. Ram is on starboard side, pushing aft, pulling ahead. Probably about 45 degrees angled out to starboard.

If you were standing at my helm and pointed your arm out 45 degrees to starboard that's the ram direction. Take your left arm and make it 90 degrees to your right, or 45 degrees to port. That's the vector of the steering arm that the ram mounts to.

Works great. The ram doesn't care where it's mounted it's not smart enough to know better
