Zeus2 Not updatting but get "upgrade failed. Retry upgrade procedure"

Hi,

I will call tech support when they open again but in case anyone has any ideas in the meantime ...

A few weeks ago I updated my new Zeus2 chartplotter. Worked fine and have used it a few times since.

I went to use it this morning to leave the lagoon we are in and noticed it is just rebooting, then showing "upgrade failed. Retry upgrade procedure", and rebooting. I can only shut it off by turning it off at the circuit breaker.

I have tried to no avail:

- starting without SD cards in the slots
- with the old update file in a SD Card
- downloaded the latest upgrade file (which the chartplotter was already on) and put it into the SD card
- tried with the network on as well as off.
- with and without the GoFree turned on

I do not see any "hard reset" buttons on the machine or in the manuals.

Rather frustrating as our hard earned tracks through the reefs here in Fiji are on it. Not the end of the world as can go back to visual and satellite imagery but not as easy - charts are not much use here.

Luckily you backed up all your hard earned data before the update, right?

Sometimes disconnecting the power from the back of the unit for a short time, 10 - 20 seconds, will reset the system when you reconnect power. Hopefully without losing data. Good luck.

Yes, data was backed up from the last update. Backup data but no backup chartplotter ...

Tried shutting off power by pulling the plug. Same as shutting off the circuit breaker i.e. No change once the power comes back on. In fact, the only way to shut off the chartplotter is to shut off the circuit breaker as the chartplotter continuously reboots and the power button does not work.

Learned about the hard reset. Tried it but still does not get past the error message.

PS: Hard reset is: Power off at cct breaker, Press X and Standby together and keep holding. Cct breaker on. Press and hold power while still holding the other two together. Caution: will reset everything including tracks, routes, waypoints etc ...

Have you tried to download a new copy of the updater and use that when it boots up? Sounds like your update was interupted or the data on your SD card was corupt.

It will keep showing that message until a clean copy of the software is loaded.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that but it did not work. The interesting thing is that I was not updating the machine at the time - only booting it up to go sailing for the day. I updated it more than a month ago and used it successfully several times since.

Navico is replacing the machine which is a bit of a pain as need to ship from Fiji but nice Navico was quick to reply and decide a course of action.

Ironic that reverting again to my 10 year old, much abused, handheld Garmin GPS that has reliably worked on a variety of boats and was our "chartplotter" for the first two years of our full time cruising.

I know this is an old thread, but I was having the same problem. After reading this and trying the hard reset, I put a card in the slot with the updated software, which it was already running. Tried the hard reset again, nothing.
I inadvertently left the circuit on and several hours later, it's up and running.
