I canīt comment on the statistic but I am one of those IC-718 owners. This is a great ham radio
for home but not a good radio for a boat (or a car).
Unlike a proper marine
radio, the IC-718 loses much power (about 60%) when running from the batteries (say 12.5V at the radio on a good day with VERY fat cables). In order to get 100W out of teh IC-718 you need the full nameplate 13.8V, which means running the engine
to get charge from the alternator
