WM AIS-100 NMEA0183 to Garmin MAPGPS 4208

Hi, I have working Gamin MAPGPS 4208 which is my main nav display.
I recently added West marine AIS-100 to my boat.
when I use PC's OpenCPN, I can monitor AIS information and view other boats.

But, when I connected my two lines (RX/A+: white) and (RX/B-: orange-white) to AIS's NMEA+ and NMEA-, Garmin does not recognize AIS communication and its existence.
This connection is following AIS manual guidance.

Garmin says data ground is to be connected bewteen the two.
Before I try to connect both ground lines, I want to hear if anybody here experienced similar problems.
And of course answers.^^

Thanks,

Y.Lee

Its been a while but my notes show when Installed my 4208 I used receiving port 2 which are brown and brown/white. port 1 which is what you are using needs to be configured to the proper baud rate. there are 4 ports you can configure. I guess check the baud rate. I have a miltech reciever not a transponder on page 17 of garmins install guide there is a pretty good diagram. You may need to tie in to black data ground if you are using a transponder on nmea black wire. When you power up select configure then communications then nmea 0183 and then port types. milltech uses high speed. check yours. you may also need to check the sentences which is below the port types. hope that helped not a recommendation just what I have and use.

I use the different ports because the speed may be different recieving port1 I use for the vhf its set at a different baud rate then the milltech ais. Oh and here is what I love to use connecting these little wires 3m scotchlok connectors. They have a built in gel pack and pierce the wires without need of stripping. No idea if this is abyc accepted but they work great and are used in tel com. Never failed. my experience

Thanks for the comment!
I think I need to connect the ground line besides the two transmission lines used by AIS.
I just have to figure out which is ground in AIS wires (they do not tell).

Much appreciated.

Yours,
