wingless 2,500W Sound System

Here are some images and the schematic for the AV and sound system I've added to my 2000 380 Searay Sundancer.

The impedus was our daughter came aboard and turned up her nose to the factory sound system. She wanted good sound and a place to plug-in her iPhone.

My system has 1,400W for the four cockpit speakers, 400W for the cockpit subwoofer, 500W for the four salon speakers and and 200W for the two bow speakers.

Both televisions are piped in, as is the Blu-ray and the video also plays on the E120 navigation system. It has Sirius radio and Sirius weather shows on the navigation screen.

My boat has three 125Ah group 31 batteries feeding the bank w/ the sound system. I can easily hook-in two more group 31s. Plus there is a generator as-required to top off the batteries. The generator is required for extended extreme volume operation, because the system can suck over 100A out of the batteries and can flatten the batteries in several hours.

It sounds pretty good to me. It has decent volume level available. I am happy with the final result. The only boats w/ louder systems have nightclub tower speakers.

Just what we need, another jerk in the anchorage with a floating boom box rattling everyone's boat. Oh! it's a power boat that posts his motor's hp and generator output. Who woulda thunk it could be anything but.

Thank you. I have ripped-out / replaced all of the electronics wiring along these lines. It is also WAAY better than as-delivered from the factory.

No way you can hear her with the 2500w on... Try to lower the sound

By the way, I'm very curious to know why on earth you need so many watts on a boat (it's a boat for christ sake not a concert hall!) I'm sure you can't sustained all of them at the same time without getting brain damaged... Or is it too late?

To be fair high wattage can be used make to make the sound quality better. Producing the musical peaks effortlessly.

Unfortunately most sound systems like this are designed to only to produce volume. The sound quality tends to pretty poor.

Given the very limited opportunity to use this volume the same money spent on some components that are designed for sound quality rather than just volume would be my preference, but its not my boat, or ears.

I think what concerns most posters is that it is very hard to imagine situations where the main attribute of this sort of system, volume, could be used without unduly bothering others.

Sounds travels very well over water so to utilise any of its potential needs an isolated anchorage with no other boats, or occupied housing on shore. This style of power boats does not usually reach such areas. Perhaps such conditions exist locally and if the OP could outline these situations it would help allay fears that others are going to subject to your taste in music.

Absolutely correct. A good high power system will sound better, even at low volume. Just because you have a lot of power doesn't mean you must or will max it out.

Unfortunately also true but I've been out of audio too long to pass judgment on the specific equipment the OP has.
