What Are You Looking At? CCD/CMOS Cameras

My aft cockpit, deck salon presents some obsticals for vision forward. I'm seriously considering adding a forward looking camera or two with monitoring at the helm.

I also have a second helm in the salon so this also could be a networked setup. I wonder if anyone else has done something similar as I'm not huge on reinventing the wheel.

Cost is not an obstical as there are so many rear view camera solutions available in the automotive market for dirt cheap. These cameras are also IR capable and see well in the dark with IR LED's.

Any thoughts?

Interesting, I though about the same thing recently, after being on a boat with a genoa completely blocking half of the forward view. Depending on the boat I finally get, if there is a problem with visibility, I will definitely install one. After all, I have 3 cameras for visibility issues in my car, why not use them on the boat?
