I use an ICOM
735 ham radio
with a backstay antenna
. I was about halfway from Hawaii
when my Pactor
controller stopped switching to wfax mode, so I changed to JVcom for the faxes--had to find the installation
download on one of my old powerhog laptops and copy it to the new netbook. I was about 1200 miles from both the Pt Reyes and the Honolulu transmitters, and got good faxes from both.
A lot of receiving wfax is getting the right frequency--I store all the frequencies in the radio
memory and switch between them. Sometimes the strongest signal is not the clearest fax, as multipath reception
can fuzzy up the image.
