Waterproof Phone Camera Combos

Hi There,

I'm looking for something that can replace my phone and underwater digital camera.

Now as much as i dont like apple products im thinking of getting an Iphone as it appears they are one of the better items out there, considering the other functions that they have.

But if anyone has something else that that would recommend id like to hear about it.

Ideally what i would like it something that,

1. Can be a phone
2. Can go underwater to a decent depth (iphone uses a special case)
3. Can act as a gps.
4. Can be used as a ebook reader.
5. Has internet connectivity
6. Has decent battery time

Once again any help would be appreciated,

Thanks in advance

Matthew

Don't get too caught up on the actual phone:
Check this out
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008X7...110_SY165_QL70

We use these and the wife gets some amazing underwater pictures. It's sturdy, water right to 100' and can fit almost any kind of phone.

Are you a diver? If so check out www,igills.com if not it's probably a lot more than you want to spend for just a waterproof case

Well Sony is marketing a smartphone which is fully waterproof but I don't know to what depth. I doubt this would substitute for a good underwater camera though.

If you go iPhone, get a Lifeproof for it. Purchase it directly from them to get the warrantee.

Have a look at the samsung Galaxy S4 Active.

got one myself and it is great BUT the little charging port cover is a pain and there is no Qi charger yet.

I have a SONY Xperia go smartphone. I didn't seek it out, but they were giving them away with a new account, and I've been fairly happy with it. Small, solid, Android 4.1, and yes it's waterproof to a couple of meters. Camera's OK. But it's not meant for underwater use.

The rest of the Xperia line. Again, I don't think they're meant for underwater photography.

... but to the OP ...why would you expect all that from a single device? A good phone is usually a middling camera, and vice versa. Get a decent, durable smartphone, and also get a decent waterproof camera. You're gonna replace the phone in two years anyway, while a good camera will last a long time. My Canon digital point'n'shoot camera is 6 years old and still working flawlessly after maybe 8ooo pictures.

I've been looking at some of these. They seem to be quoting 1.5m for 30 mins for some of the newer Xperia phones:
Xperia

1 metre for 30 mins for the tablets

On vacation in the Dominican Republic earlier this year we saw several people with Iphones in waterproof cases (~$80 USD) in the ocean, hot tubs, pools and they claimed they had no problems with them. And Iphones have excellent cameras and do everything you asked for. Just my $.02.

The only thing better than my iPhone 5 in a Lifeproof case, is my fiance's iPhone 5S in a Lifeproof case. Well, except for my Nikonos kit--but it's difficult texting those analog film images directly from the camera

Sony advises not to use the Xperia Z in salt water, FWIW. . . .

See I dive, had a friend and his daughters that keep their boat in the same marina I do, spend I think about 26 hrs in the water this summer, came up from a dive, not on their anchor line and couldn't get back to the boat. By the time the wife at home called the Coast Guard they weren't found until the next day. All this about ten miles off the Coast of Panama City Fl. While this iGills thing isn't as good as my current dive computer, if that guy had one, he could have used the phone to call for help and not spent the night and most of the next day in the water with his daughters. So I'm considering this Igills thing for that reason, it's also why I asked the OP if they dove. obviously only good if there is cell phone coverage,
I'm not aware of any PLB that you could dive with?

Try this: http://www.nautiluslifeline.com

For rescues, I would rely on this before a cell phone.
