Can you download Open CPN on to a chip and use on above or will it only work with proprietry software?

Huh? Are you asking can you run opencpn on a Vulcan ? If so, The answer would be no. The Vulcan runs NOS - Navico operating system. Opencpn is mac, PC, android, and raspberry Pi only. The Vulcan already does much of what opencpn does as is. What are you trying to achieve?

Ok, badly worded.
What I meant was can you use the charts that you use on Opencpn on the V7?
(Which are free) And then both topside & down below charts are exactly the same and it should be possible to swap route info topside via WiFi.

From what I have gathered the V7 uses only Navionics & Cmap only. (for NZ)
Can route info be sent from Opencpn on laptop to the V7?
