Vhf with ais to classic e120

Hello, i have a simrad r35 i am trying to connect to a raymarine e120 classic. It appears i may have seatalk? The cable marked nmea0183 has a sticker that says seatalk, and inside the software i see seatalk packets reciecved. However, i have taken the boat apart all around the nav station and i cannot find anything that says seatalk or a bus like in the pictures on google. I did find a module under the bed that is hooked to the autopilot stuff and labled nmea0183. Can someone offer some advice on how to connect and figure out what i have?

Connect your Simard NMEA 0183 output to your Raymarine E120 classics NMEA 0183 input.

Here is a more detailed write up. First you need to find your GPS source. If it is seatalk then connect it anywhere on the seatalk system and also connect the c120 nmea output to the radio. If the GPS is nmea then connect it to the radio. Now connect the radio nmea output to the C120. Set everything to pass through and you will have GPS and AIS on the plotter. Give me a call if you need help.

you need to figure out what you have and what is connected to what, and what free ports you still have on the 120. the 120 only has one serial port, if it's already used for your pilot connection then you'll need a mulitplexer and it's going to get hard. if the pilot is raymarine you shoudln't need a nmea 183 connection to it.

your gps antena is probably seatalk

the plugs are marked on the back of the unit. one is nmea one is seatalk. follow them.

Thanks for the help so far. The e120 plug for nmea0183 is in use by the cable that says seatalk. The autopilot is autohelm/raymarine. The module i found under the bed appears to be http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=5534
E85001 mutifunction seatalk converter.

If i take nmea0183 plugs and make a t adding with 2 the same colors and the third the correct matching to the simrad, and plug this in at the e120 in the back.....should that work?

Don't mess around with equipment you depend on 24/7 while underway ... hire a trusted professional.

No

You need an intelligent device to combine multiple NMEA0183 talkers into one network.

AIS over NMEA0183 is 38.4kbps, normal NMEA0183 devices are 4.8kbps, hence you need a multiplexer that handles the speed conversion in addition to the data combining.

well it's not seatalk if it's plugged into the nmea port. why is he running a nmea183 cable to a seatalk converter when there is already a seatalk port on the screen?.... thats just silly and would probbaly free up your nmea 183 port if you just wired everything to seatalk. where does the screen seatalk cable go?

the other issues is the rs35 needs 2 com ports as it appears to send ais at 38,400 but receive gps at 4800. which is a horible design. the first standard horzion was like that and quickly fixed to accpect at 38,400 and only needing one screen port.
