VHF Antenna Splitter for Phone

Anyone hooked up their mobile phone to the VHF antenna via a splitter? Do they both work ok?

I'm not sure I understand why this would work.
These are two different type of systems.
Can you give more details.

The frequencies used by the marine VHF and cell phones are drastically different. A VHF antenna would be a very poor radiator for cell phone signals.

The length of an antenna has to have some relationship to the frequency that is being transmitted.

Marine VHF is around 156-157 MHz. Cellphones are 800-1700 or so MHz. Sat Phones (Iridium) are around 1600 MHz. Inmarsat also is not a good match.

And since cellphones have little power to spare, using a really good antenna is usually a good idea.

VHF - phone antenna

Thanks folks,I thought that might be the case, but worth asking. I'll look at a dedicated external phone antenna.
