Vesper on a Pi?

I need some help from the tech gurus. I am almost ready to build a Pi2 to plug into a tv on board for a ships computer and have one obstacle.

Has anyone gotten Vespers PC software to run on a Pi?

Thanks

Re: Vesper on a Pi?

Raspberry Pi uses an ARM processor, which is incompatible with Intel/AMD processors used in PC's and Mac's. You can run OpenCPN, though.

Re: Vesper on a Pi?

It may work on a Pi3, but with only 1GB of RAM, it'll be sluggish. I would not recommend it.

What's the OPs desire? Something inexpensive to run Vesper? Or to interface custom stuff in the future using the GPIO ports? We need more information to make a recommendation...

Re: Vesper on a Pi?

Why would you specifically want/need Vespar software on a Pi, when you could use OpenCPN or OpenPlotter software to overlay AIS on a chart or with an additional plugin do a radar type display? This is a much easier way to go.

We just set up a Pi3B from source code and it's great.

Vesper on a Pi?

The reason for running Vesper software is the one MUST run the Vesper software to upgrade the firmware in the Vesper unit.

There is an option to update the firmware through the iOS app, but that has failed twice on two separate updates.

Soooo as stated above- the only way to update firmware is Vesper software running on Windows or Mac OS.

I do appreciate the efforts put forth!!!
